I'm looking to upgrade my current GTX 460 1GB to one of these, is it worth it to upgrade? Can a 470 max out settings at 1920x1080? is the difference in performance worth upgrading to essentially? I have someone selling these used and flashed to a 470 for $150 and I'm thinkning if it's really worth it... redface.gif

How much is it going to end up costing you, net, after you sell your other card?

Obviously it's more powerful and has more vram (which is nice nowadays), but it somewhat depends on how well your current card OC's, and how well the one you're buying OC's. Typically these cards will do in the 800-850 range on air, although that may require 1.087-1.1V to accomplish, which tends to run fairly hot and loud (although these card never get obnoxiously loud even at 100%). At these clocks, they're likely to beat out a 460 at it's highest OC by somewhere around 20-30% would be my guess.

They're also kinda worth buying just on account of how great looking they are, the limited edition thing, etc. They're just badass cards, my favorite I've ever owned by far. Not planning on dumping my SLI setup until the 700 series/GK110 as two of these babies in SLI hang pretty nicely with a 680 anyways.

It would cost me $46 after selling my card. I have a buyer waiting in the wings for my 460 and I was contemplating buying a 570 for $280 which would end up costing me $230-$235 and then I ran into this card.

My 460 is OCd to 900 24/7, it's just that playing (1920x1080) Skyrim (trying to complete all side missions) and Crysis / Crysis Warhead (trying to kill everything using my bare hands and stealth mode), I still get dips below 24 fps (since I see some hesitation in game - is that even the correct term?)

What do you think, worth it for $50 bucks versus buying a Phantom 570 and spending that much?

LOL, wow, nobody even responded to me a couple months ago... thanks for the 'help' guys... tongue.giftongue.giftongue.giftongue.gif

Anyways, i went ahead and did the unlock, #1687 is now a 470, running great cept for the fans are starting to make the occasional grinding noise... Got a nice 20 percent fps increase in Skyrim.

Now I need another..... smile.gif I kinda want to get a regular gtx470 with the aluminum so my two video cards have a cool juxtaposition in the case.

hey, i got this deal on a golden edition number ****, before buying it how can i understand it can be modded to a 470? also if i brick this while trying to update it even tho it is possible what will happen? because i will either get this card or a hd6850 for my atacama build and im sure the GE is a better deal for 10 bucks more.

Check the first post for details on how to verify it has the 10 chips if you want to confirm it can unlock. There are also a couple guides for unlocking in the first post. It's very easy to flash a BIOS to nvidia cards, to "unlock" these 465's to a 470 you just flash a gtx 470 bios to it. You can do it from a boot disk, or even in windows. The last couple times I flashed mine it was in windows, and I haven't had any issues.

Basically just go download the latest version of nvflash, make a backup of your current bios with either GPU-Z, or nvflash, then flash whichever gtx 470 bios you choose using the command:

nvflash -4 -5 -6 nameofbios.rom

Answer Y, or yes a few times, wait until it finishes, and you're done, reboot and enjoy the extra performance.

Almost NO 465's GE's failed to unlock, as you can see from the first page of this thread. For $10 more than a 6850 I'd grab the GE all day long and twice on Sundays. Hell, I'd take this card for $10 more than a stock GTX480. Versus a 6850 it's not even a friggin question. These cards are flat-out awesome ... that's why it's 1.5 years later and I'm still rocking my two, with great joy and pride thumb.gif

Which 470 BIOS do you guys recommend? I just got a Zotac 465 with all the memory chips and was wondering if there was any one BIOS that is special. Is there a place where I can go pick one out?

Head over to techpowerup's video bios section.

I've been using the evga gtx 470SC bios on my evga 465, when I had GE's I used the MSI twin frozr bios. It doesn't really matter, you can even use a gtx480 bios if you want.
