Well...It could be worse, It's been six days now for me and amazon still has yet to ship my cards. Emailed customer service and they say to keep waiting cards will ship soon.

wow, I guess I missed something? All of the sudden this thread has 66 pages, and people are waaay off topic. I gotta stop slacking. LOL

Anyway, for what it's worth, I have been doing what this card was intended for all day, and that is gaming. I have thrown most everything I can think of at it, Ghostbusters, Just Cause 2, Need For Speed - Shift, Street Fighter IV, Crysis, Crysis - Warhead, Dirt 2, Resident Evil 4 and 5, to name a few.

This card is doing great. I've been playing at stock speeds (unlocked to stock MSI 470 bios) and every game listed plays at maximum settings. I left AA off on the 2 Crysis games, but they still play silky smooth. I can't comment on FPS, but it has to be close to 60. All other games are at max settings, with AA. Framerates are high and stable. Temps are staying around 58 - 60C. So far, this 465 unlocked is doing amazing things.

Holy cow....so SLI should be over overkill? if there was ever such a thing!

EDIT: given the post above, not power req's

Who is responsible for my thread getting merged into this one? This is not cool.

Anyway, hi everyone!

I had to go to sleep. I was running on fumes.

But then I come back and see this. I am very unhappy with what I see: my thread was not only trashed, but now it was merged with this one. Not cool.

A few questions for you,

-What bios are you flashing it with? The Twin Frozr GTX 470 bios? Does this turn it into a 1280MB card (vs the 1GB 465)?

-Is there a specific guide you'll be following and could you link us? I did a quick check of the NVIDIA forum and didn't see one.

-Do you know if the fan control works properly on the flashed card? That's my biggest concern, I'm all about the silence in my computer when it's not being used hard.

TY for any answers! This feels like a good time to me to upgrade cards and sell off old ones
Thank you! I'm really excited!
  1. I don't know which BIOS I'll be using yet, but based on every guide I've seen, it looks to me like it doesn't matter which one. I mean, all of them basically just say to choose a 470 BIOS.
  2. I think I'll be doing it Linus' way (the guy from Linus Tech Tips): YouTube- ‪MSI NVIDIA GeForceGTX 465 Twin Frozr II Golden Edition GTX 470 Flash Unlock Guide Linus Tech Tips‬‎ At the beginning of the video, he says "Someone posted on my MSI Twin Frozr II Golden Edition GTX 465..." which was confusing to me at first, but I discovered that he's referring to this video review: YouTube- ‪MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 COPPER Twin Frozr Golden Edition Unboxing & First Look Linus Tech Tips‬‎
  3. I don't know if the fan control behaves differently than a "real" 470. But I think I'll be getting mine either next Wednesday or Thursday and I hope to be posting some unboxing pics as well as some text describing the end result of flashing. However, I also hope to spend some time getting used to it as a 465 first so that I can better appreciate it as a 470.

But be sure to buy soon. MSI produced 2500 of these and there's no telling how many are left, regardless of what numbers we're seeing here on OCN. I mean, Newegg definitely doesn't have all 2500 of them.

oh and op. Hardwarezone link is broken

this seems to be working
Linus from the videos I posted above says this card weighs about 4 pounds! I can't wait to experience that! It'll be the heaviest graphics card I've ever held!

BlahBlahBlah, could you also include the links to the bios's you tried that didn't enable the full 1280 of memory? I know you tried like 3 of them if I'm not mistaken.

Also, for anyone concerned, I used the "stock" MSI GTX 470 bios from TechPowerup and it unlocked the full memory and settings are all at stock settings in GPU-Z. So if you don't want a "tweaked" bios, use that one. http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/7...80.100401.html

If you want a bit of a tweak, get the one that BlahBlahBlah used. His unlocks the full 1280 memory, and gives a tad bit of an overclock, without having to mess with MSI afterburner or similar.
The reason why he had trouble with the amount of memory is because he didn't do the flash correctly at first. But at first he figured it was just a bad BIOS or something, so that's why he tried a few different ones. But as soon as he figured out the error he was making, he then flashed it correctly and it then finally gave him all 1280 MB.

So it wasn't limited due to the BIOS, but it was because he performed the flash incorrectly.

I'm kinda glad they merged the threads. I was getting confusing navigating around 3 different threads where people were talkin about these cards. But I'm not 'responsible' in any way. Ever, really.

Apparently Kny got docked 31 reps, and I'd imagine they're locking all his for sale threads.

Of course, he was just minding his own business and 5 people decided to rep him 35 times over the course of his first 82 posts. Because, you know, having like 40% of your posts randomly get repped happens all the time around here ... especially when you have like 5 different things you just happen to want to sell on OCN

GTX470 SLI + OC(800 1600 4000 ) should need 600-700w power at loading. So , you at least need 850W-1000w PSU for your computer.

Oh yeah, and mine shipped today! They don't have a tracking number yet, but it shipped from New Jersey (as usual for me), so I expect to receive it either Wednesday or Thursday of next week!!

As of right now, I plan on making an unboxing thread (which had better not get merged with this one). I also plan on using it as a 465 for a while to get used to it so that I can better appreciate it after flashing it!

I'm so excited about this that I woke up thinking about this card! I didn't dream about it though.

Anyway, when I flash it, I'll update that unboxing thread I hope to make.

I keep seeing all kinds of different numbers.

How much power does 1 of these cards use when unlocked to a 470?

How about 2 unlocked cards?

Yeah, and when you flash it, it'll be like getting an even newer card.

I skimmed and scanned this whole thread. I was wondering why stuff looked familiar.

Anyway, these are tempting. I'm still curious as to if the NON-GE Twin Frozrs can unlock as well.
