I hope that the fan shroud is not made of copper...

It's worthless to have a shroud made of copper. It'll just weigh the card down even more and warp boards. Plus it's expensive as ***** to do.
That's why companies use plastic instead.

If you look closely, the entire heatsink is copper, that is the point.

I bet you the temps are very good with this card, i'm wondering how heavy it is though.

But if it's connected to the heatsink, it's that much more mass that has to be heated, which will draw more heat off the GPU.

But, you're right, it must be very heavy. Might need a ghetto prop rod to hold that card up. lol

Why not? That would be friggin great! but its not, that would have made the card more expensive.

EDIT: and yeah im pissed as this would have been a nice sli setup to match my true copper

The entire design of the shroud just kind of baffles me.
In one respect, it seems like there are so many weird curves and edges that the cooling would be terrible.
In another respect, MSI may have caught onto a design that gives +1 to epic cooling.
I have NEVER seen ANY company to a full-copper shroud, though. It may just be paint.

It's probably purely for looks. I'd be willing to bet that shroud on or off makes no measurable difference in cooling.

Holy hell!
A standard 5870 weighs close to 2.5lbs. I can't believe this could match it!
Still has nothing on the 5-pound ARES, though.
