I think that Scutzi (Sp?) is testing his OC or something, but that might just be the tiredness kicking in...

Finally got the GT430 up and Folding on WORK_PC, had a bit of assistance from Lutro0 (again, sp?) but it seems like it was me not being fully awake in the office, and rushed, so forgetting that it had picked that M$ updates driver and it was dated 2009 (IIRC) so it didn't have the required dll files that the client wanted...anyway, it has been kicking out a healthy ~8k PPD so far, but hasn't dropped any WUs in time for the last EOC update..

Back on the Team theme..does anyone know whether there's a new VM appliance (I'm thinking I used to run one that was done by "linuxrouter" or something, possibly from the EVGA forum) that does the new client..? Obviously, based on the above post, I wouldn't try it on WKS04 until we've got the go-ahead, but I'd like to find out whether running that would give a worthwhile PPD boost compared to running natively in W7...as I'm sure it used to be...

On the Laundromatic thread, they were talking about doing a Ubuntu Liinux ISO, and installing that dual boot. Then folding native under Linux...it's supposed to give a big boost to your ppd. But you'd have to be running WKS04 under Linux 24x7 pretty much to get any benefit. If you're up on Linux to do it, think there is a thread about it in Folding area. I'll add the link if I find it.

Edit Too: 2/3rd of the way into the month and almost a 400k pnt lead...nice to see CB back in the game too. Way to go, MISFITS...5 4 6 everybody, 5 4 6!

Not quite what I had in mind, but I'll have a little read and maybe try it later in the month - presuming we're still leading by as much as we are now, we'd be much more certain of taking the title again....

D@mmit...just finished off a fairly hefty post that I'd started earlier on my BB, only to find that it hasn't been added in here...

Anyway, basically said that we seem to be OWNing this month (as per usual, really) and that I've been trying to get WKS02 sorted...but it looks like it might be more than one part that has gone...

Removed the old PSU from WKS02 and saw that the 4-pin connections of the 24 + 4 power to the MoBo (both the cable from the PSU and the connector on the MoBo) aren't as white as they're supposed to be....one of the pins in completely [gloss] black, the one next to it is all brown, and the other two are both discoloured - but appear to only/mainly be from the other half's issue/s, as it is only on one side of the outside of those pins..

I was going to replace the PSU with one of the other (~4) spare PSUs I have, but the only one with a 24 + 4 option is too big (as in, too long/deep) to fit in the case.

Next step, dismantle WKS02's main components (CPU, cooler, RAM, HDD, GPU) and add them into what used to be WKS01 (which had a borked CPU - this case used to be "OLDWKS") and try again [which would also confirm whether the Asus MoBo that WKS01 used to have is bu99ered too] which was going well....

It now POSTs, but doesn't display *anything* to the monitor - not even the BIOS screen...!! It does seem as if it might be able to get into the OS, partly as the [PS2] keyboard I added (to rule out a KVM issue) and there is a constant power draw (the PSU that is in use now has a built-in display next to the power cable socket to show current wattage used) of around 140 W...and it was able [once only] to show the XP login screen - but only very briefly, for around 2 seconds, which wasn't even enough for me to ascertain whether it was WKS02 or WKS01 (both defaulted to XP when working) or anything further....

I've got a weird feeling that it might be that the 275 is possibly trying to send the display down the wrong DVI port, but I doubt it...so the next option I'm going to try (after just checking that) is to add in one of my other GPUs (that can't Fold) in, just to test whether it is having an issue with the 275 on that MoBo with the WKS02 CPU in there..........................but that shouldn't be an issue..

Update to come tomorrow night (got a meal with a customer tonight) once I've had a chance to fiddle around..

Oh, and here's the thread I was thinking about previously, with the Folding VM appliance:

Think the new client let's you fold natively in Linux (no vm). Means you'd have to boot into linux to fold. There was some discussion on the L thread about booting from a USB drive...not sure that worked out though.

But yeah, if you want to be in Windows and use Linux to fold, you'd need to do it through a VM I guess. I was originally doing that, but then switched to straight windows folding when Linux -bigadv went down a while back.

Same here... I was tempted to run WKS04 as a Linux OS, but I just couldn't suss out how to use my AD User Accounts on it - which is something that I need to be able to do, due to the fact that everything is set to us the M$ domain structure... (Apart from UNIX1 and UNIX2 [before I gave one to TheReaperWaits a few months back] which were just to try Ubuntu/Kubuntu and see if I could get them to work, while also CPU Folding)

If we've still got a 300k pnt lead by Friday, I'm going to get my son to help me set up Ubuntu on my 980X and get folding running on it. He's a linux expert. He programmed an imbedded linux operating system on a computer on a chip for a class 3 medical device at his last job, including the device drivers...I'm a little proud for him. Got his name on the patent application and everything!

Just picked up a darn 2684 that won't be finished until mid-morning Thursday...if I get a better one after that it will be done late evening Friday. I'll probably miss 12-24 hours of folding, but I think long term it will be worth it. Might also try to tweak up my OC, assuming the OS has an impact on that. Gotta keep up with the Joneses!

Still pushing to find someone for VWs slot. I can take it...but I'll only get 14k ppd so we'd be losing 3k+ ppd from VW, and 6k+ ppd from that darn rat....

Anybody know somebody (not already in a team) that folds on a 5XX...let me know. We'll find somebody! We're gonna WIN March....and L is gonna have to pry the trophy away from us in April. MISFITS!

Update: Got a line on a fermi folder with a OC'd 570....waiting to hear more. He may check in, if he decides to I'll let him introduce himself.
