The Misfits - Page 416

The facia panels aren't under straight, so it does lean to the side a little bit....but it is only as one side (the retaining clip thing) is not on the top of the case - so that side is prolly only about 3mm off the case and the other side is more like 8mm off... That was about the best I could do with it as otherwise it was too close to the bottom of the drawer; meaning that there would be even less airflow and the drawer couldn't open...as it is, I've opened the drawer a bit, so there's some "extra" space for the heat to escape...

Anyway, I discovered a few weeks ago that there's a slight leak from one connection to the rad, but that was only when I tried to reposition the rad through the gap behind the left side of the computer 'box' bit, when I was hoping to get some semi-decent airflow...once I moved it back on top, there was no more leaking... I've left the rad hanging slightly off the back anyway - so if there is a drip or two, it doesn't pop the PSU and cause downtime...just need to keep an eye on the water level and for any puddles...

Oh yeah, and I'm WFH this weekend...

Actually, I'm not gonna WFH today.....as the link to the WAN is down.

I've got a bigadv WU ready and waiting to be sent, and (when I checked before I left to get to the office) it had been trying at least a dozen times to get a new WU to crunch on...

I'm at work now (note "at work", rather than "working" ) so I'll have to trouble shoot it when I get back later...should be by 16:00 (UK) but initial troubleshooting seems to suggest that it is a failure in my LAN - as nothing could even PING the gateway.. It might be a dead router, or it might be one of the other switches; will have to wait to get home to review.

You must love your DSL I sure love mine

Hopefully in a few weeks I will be on high speed cable, 15Mbps down, 3Mbps up. The company I work for is finally putting lines in on my street...

As I said, I'm not sure that the issue isn't inside my LAN, as I can't even PING the gateway IP...and if I can't PING that, then it doesn't matter whether the link from that to the WAN is up or not......

The gateway router (DSL Modem, firewall, router and WAP device in one) belongs to VirginMedia, and the lights on it were on. I gave it a 240V reset (restarted it - with a ~2 min pause to clear the memory and the link) but it didn't fix the issue.

The lights on that would seem to suggest that it has everything it should have, so the next step is to get LAP03 and an ethernet cable to do some port testing and see what is (and is not) working, and maybe do a bit of a tidy with the cabling at the same time......when I initially hooked everything up, I had more machines online than I do now, and there weren't enough ports nearby to link neatly, so there are two or three cables that are running around the room - and, being the "neat freak" that I am* it would be best to manage the cabling better, now that there are fewer ports needed - and especially if I'm going to move WKS04 to Desk2 too....

Why is it that when you are away from your files, and can't connect back to them, that you seem to want to connect back more frequently than you otherwise would..?

I tidied all this mess at the place I was before to a *much* better thing. I don't have any pics of "after" handy, but here are the "before" shots.....

Bear in mind that this was all done during the day (they didn't want to pay me overtime) and with minimal downtime; only disrupting one table at a time, arranged to suit with when they were at lunch or in meetings....and was for the European Head Office for an American bank...

Well done..!

I got back and found that the issue with my WAN link was indeed internal, seems that it was either the Cisco (well, "Linksys By Cisco" ) had failed on at least one ports..maybe more... At least I don't need to use as many ports now, and I've actually dropped two switches out from my W/LAN and added them to my spares shelf - which is almost overflowing..!!

That reminds me, need to take some pics...

Well, I think I've managed to find/cause a bug in my HFM reporting....

After I managed to sort the issues that I'd been having with my WAN accessibility yesterday, I realised that if I left WKS04 alone, then it would sit there with the completed WU sitting in the queue for another 4 hours or so (the auto-send thing runs every six hours; it had done the previous attempt about two hours earlier) and would be losing even more bonus points - as it turns out, the drop was from ~63k points to ~55k points.

Anyway, I opened a new Terminal window and used the "-send all" flag to get the WU sent, which worked successfully - hence how I know what it got - so I closed that Terminal prompt down.

Unfortunately, and I'm not sure why, but this seems to have made HFM think that my Folding client is/has stopped.

I can assure you that it is still running: both from checking the F@H Terminal window, System Monitor, sensors, the case temp display (shown on the front of the case) and touching the window of the res....so you can ignore the status shown on my stats; I guess it should resolve itself the next time that I restart WKS04, but it might just be a case of closing the client and starting it up again... I think I might just restart it anyway, don't think it has even been offline (well, powered down at least ) for a couple of months....

This is what it currently looks like under Desk2; you can see WKS02 (black case) SRV01 (grut big thing) and my other "classic" (in 'classic white'...but a bit discoloured from when I had it running as a server [and Folding] while in a cupboard) Unix box

The 'return' of Desk1 with a "classic" AMD CPU, MoBo, RAM (the one that Tia took out of the case that WKS02 is now in) holding back my Rossi flag; so it doesn't get in the way of the screen

A pic to show how WKS04 is *in* Desk1

(Sorry it is sideways, I need to find a [free] app to enable me to edit (trim, resize and rotate) pics in Linux...just haven't had the time so far)

Another pic, shows the limited airflow around the rad

Here's what the gap behind the "computer box" bit is like on Desk1

This is what it currently looks like under Desk2; you can see WKS02 (black case) SRV01 (grut big thing) and my other "classic" (in 'classic white'...but a bit discoloured from when I had it running as a server [and Folding] while in a cupboard) Unix box

Yeah, I find sometimes when I shut down and restart the folding client, HFM loses it. I've had to shut down hfm, open a terminal, go to the hfm directory, and do a sudo mono HFM.exe command to restart it. I've put in the right config to open automatically, so that starts it right up.

SECOND PLACE, MISFITS!! Know we're over 100k pnts behind, but with these hugeadvs, ANYTHING can happen. It all depends on what you get, when you get it, and when you finish it. Keep folding hard and hope for the best for the rest of the month!

Chunkybowser's HFM hasn't updated since April 30th...

Anyone have a way I can snoop on him?
