amang....adcantu...both don't make any sense and start with a, so I'm supposed to remember? ;-)

My PSU started overheating in the Q9550 rig remember? tongue.gif That's not a problem now though, got a replacement PSU. If we still need an AMD folder come June and Builder wants to switch to that I should be able to get the Q9550 ready by then for cat2. I'd rather not fold on my 6950 any more during the summer, hitting the 90's now and AC's already working hard to keep up. But here's another question, isn't Hacksword coming back once he gets his Q9550 OC'd and stable with the new mobo?

On another note during the down time I wanted to see what the 2500k in my gaming rig could do under water so I switched them up. Doesn't look like it will go past 4.7 without a lot of volts. So now I have the cpu's switched it's time to switch the mobos around and see if the Asus P67 Pro will do any better then the ASRock P67 Extreme4 with my better 2500k. And yes, I have way too much stuff...but it's still not enough! wheee.gif

Yeah, just kidding you there, blazed_1.

Why don't you get the Q9550 up and folding at best OC, and run it during Chimp Challenge? Get us a true ppd for it. Same for Builder, if he can fold on his GPU during that time. Then we'll figure out who to put in each category. Still hoping for NLM or adcantu to come back in so we can not have any temps...but as much as that we need to have the best folders in each category, and NOT lose any points. We need to get a FAST start on 1 June and fold hard and stable the ENTIRE month.

Overclocking my gpu does not seem to be limited by temperature. I can play with voltage and clocks to my heart's content and still not come close to max temps. Why? Granted it has an "aftermarket" ASUS 2 heatpipe cooler, but why do others feel it necessary to water cool them. Can anyone point me in the right direction here? I can't find anything about oc'ing this card, could use some help. Currently using gpu tweak with both 6 pin 12v rails applied. Thanks:thumb:

There's a few good reasons why people opt for water cooling. Running xfire or sli with an aftermarket cooler puts a ton of heat in the case and reference coolers are really loud. It also looks pretty cool. biggrin.gif

Have you tried MSI Afterburner for OC'ing? That and Trixx are all I've used to OC and both work pretty well, I don't think Trixx works on all cards though. As for OC'ing, it's pretty much the same for most GPU's; raise the core speed, test for stability, if stable repeat if not add more voltage. Once you find the max stable core speed start raising the memory speed and testing that.

A major benefit of water cooling is to be able to run quite yet very powerful cooling, cooling down 68xx series is indeed more unusual than say the 69xx's. Another big factor why many does it is as simple as looks, a fully water cooled rig looks pretty smexy if done right.

The 68xx-silcon might not develop much heat and therefore is pretty easy to cool down, but the architecture says stop before you hit a temperature limit.

Builder, figured it would be easier to post here instead of PM. Which client are you using for your 6850 and which AMD drivers? I also noticed a little drop in gpu usage while folding but it was usually only dropped down to 98%. I was using 12.1 drivers but I'm not sure which are the best for folding.

I'm using FAH control, running gpu:1: bart, and using 12.4 catalyst drivers. GPU Tweak shows fluctuations between 91% and 99% use of my gpu. It stays at 99% for 13 seconds, then drops to 91% for 5 seconds. I am not using a smp flag, only gpu. my processor usage is at 27-38% use of my 940 x2. I am receiving an approximate 6241 ppd with no other programs running. I used to gett over 8kppd. Any ideas?

Try setting a high priority on the process for a few minutes to see if it changes things. If it does, then some other process is probably stealing.

So, woke up this morning to a strange loud hum coming from my folding rig, never good right? Somehow the fans on my rad stopped working, my guess would be something to do with the fan controller. Check the temps real quick before shutting down, folding at 95C. And the loud hum is coming from the pump so I'm guessing that got cooked. I don't have time right now to tear it apart and look at everything but I will do so later after work.

Builder, have you tried any other drivers? I'm not sure which are the best but like I said, 12.1 worked fine for me. PPD stayed at a constant 9500. It's hard to say with AMD though, folding is just not very optimized for them.
