Just touching them made me drool.

I think Ubuntu helps a good bit even with just SMP. I went from 12k to 17k PPD on my Q9550 just switching from Windows to Ubuntu 10.10. Might not look like a lot but that's a significant increase, especially now with no bigadv every bit of extra points helps.

Was that native or in a VM, blazed_1? At first the big reason to go linux (even in a VM) was to pick up hugeadvs. Now that's not going to happen, it really need to be because of the (incremental) improvements in ppd folding Linux vs. Windows, native or in a VM. So Onions, you might want to check your ppd folding in Windows, then put Linux in a VM in and fold in there and see whether that improves your ppd. Don't know if Linux native is a possibility (esp if you've got a spare HD to put it on), but then you can also see what your ppd would be that way.

I've always run Ubuntu native, never tried or needed to set up a VM since I was never folding on my main rig.

Yep, that's what I thought. Folding native in Linux should result in better ppd than in Windows. I'm not sure if it's much or any better if you're folding in a VM, though.
Only way to get hugeadvs was to fold in Linux, and if you wanted Windows AND to fold hugeadv, that was the way to go.

So Onions, if it's only going to take you a few minutes to switch over to folding in a VM, go for it. Make sure to set up HFM after you get the folding going, and then send updated (every once in a while) results to a public folder and then send me the url so I can post it on the OP.

Running a VM with Linux is deffo gonna help, those 17k would be over 25k when the computer is untouched. I'd guess somewhere around the 26-28k mark for 5.1 running Linux in a VM.

Glad we got a full team together. I also bumped my OC to 4.0 on my i5 760 and am now getting 16.19K PPD. I have a -minibigadv 20K WU dropping in about 19 hours. Sstnt I have no idea how to set up that web stuff with HFM. Any sort of walk through you can give me?

In regards to the VMWare it will definitely give you a boost in PPD. It boosted my PPD from around 10-12K to now 15-16K when I started using the VMWare. Works great so far and pretty easy to use. I used a guide on here for it. The following link is that guide.
