Hiya MISFITS!

I'm putting together that 3930k system, H80i cooling, 16GB (4x4) of 1866Mhz Gskill Ripjaws RAM, all on a Rampage IV Extreme MB, Thermaltake 850w modular PSU. OS will be on a OCZ 115GB ssd, storage on a Caviar Black 2TB drive. Hoping to get 4.6Ghz initially for CPU folding ONLY 24x7 (have a PNY GTX650 I'm putting in for video but NOT for folding). Probably going to run Native Ubuntu, just not sure of the version. May be doing TheKraken and running a corehack to do -bigadv if I can get that 4.6Ghz.

The only holdup right now is that this board requires an 8-pin, a 6-pin AND a 4-pin power connector! Talk about a power hog! And I don't have a single power cable with a 4-pin connector. So I ordered an adaptor from Newegg today and hope it will come in by the weekend. Otherwise, I won't have it up until next week. Another issue is the Case I have for it has the cutout on the MB in the place where the CPU socket is on the 1366, et al board. Which (because of those extra RAM slots), IS NOT where it is at on this board. I am hoping the backplace for the H80i will still fit, as the standoffs on this Zalman case are VERY short.

Anyway...one guy indicated he was running bigadvs with this CPU and board and getting over 100k ppd...so THERE'S something to look forward to! FOLD HARD, MISFITS! thumb.gif

Looks good amigo. Just remember that Hex core is limited to SMP only. No -bigadv. Only Ubuntu 10 supports the kraken. Ubuntu 12.10 has all the optimization for SB and IB already included. You do not need a back plate for mounting the H80 on an LGA 2011 board, it is already there.

"Folding bigadv on core hacks has been banned from TC in all categories except beta Hexacore in Division III." Core hacking isn't allowed.

No wonder people don't want to run their 3930s in TC...

The disparity in points would be huge if -bigadv were allowed. The only TC cpus that can complete them under time limits are hex. SB-E with a 4.8+ overclock.

Holy crap from 6->4 in a day!!!

And I am going to try testing the new core out on my AMD 6870, especially with us solidly in Div1 next month and only 1+ days left in the month.

Thanks for the pointer...I didn't look closely at that backplate. First time I've seen one with threads! Just screw in the 2011 standoffs, plug on the H80, screw down the thumb screws, connect the fan and pump connectors, and it's good to go!

Ok, ok....I happened to be looking at [T]yphoon's thread and guess I got carried away. Do you guys suggest folding in Win 7, Linux in a VM, or Native Linux? And what linux, Ubuntu 10.10 or a later version like 12.10 for best results?

Going to get it up this weekend and folding, one way or another!

Oh, and WAY TO FOLD MISFITS! Folded our way up to 3rd place! Keep it coming, and hopefully we can do even better in February!

Native= higher ppd

Ubuntu 12.10= fully optimized for SB/IB architecture, so you won't have to install any scripts or hacks

F@H V7 client= A4 units, beta units, more points
