The best 775 intel board out right now would have to be the:

Asus P5WD2 Premium http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131534

I've heard of 94% overclocks with this board on phase change cooling (3.8GHz to 7.3GHz). I'm not saying you will get that good of an overclock, but I'm sure you'll do pretty good (4.8GHz-5.0GHz maybe)...

Is it also stable?, and is it a fuss to set up?

And what about DFI, heard they make good boards too?

Thanks

DFI makes a a couple of good 775 boards, one for AGP, and the other for PCI-E. The PCI-E one is hard to find, and expensive (because it comes bundled with a lot of cool extras, like case carrying strap, and UV sleeving mesh).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136148 <- AGP
http://us.dfi.com.tw/Product/xx_product_spec_details_r_us.jsp?PRODUCT_ID=2980&C ATEGORY_TYPE=MB&SITE=NA <- PCI-E

The PCI-E board is DDR2 only, whereas the AGP board is DDR only.

As I stated before. Asus P5WD2 Premium...

If it were unstable and finicky I would've stated that, little to no asus boards are instable, and the ones that are don't get that much play to where it would be well known.

The flagship 775 board is the newer P5WD2-E Premium (The -E signifies the use of the newer 975X chipset.) It is the best Intel board out right now. People are overclocking Pentium D 920 (2.8Ghz) to 4.2Ghz on air, stable! Thats a hell of an overclock on air.

Difference between P5WD2 and P5WD2-E
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ubCategory=280

The P5WD2-E Premium will support Conroe, Pentium D 955 EX, 960, and it a better overclocker.

I asume I can use my old P4 640 on that board.

How much gain is there in switching my DDR2-5400 to DDR2-6400? Will I notice it at all?

Bear in mind, that I'm not a gamer. I use it as a Highpowered workstation for 3D applications, so I don't care that much for framerates etc. Much more for the handeling of 3d Modeling, and computing big chunks of data.

Thanks for your input

If your not OCing, PC2-5400 will do you just fine

I would get the P5WD2 Premium board, it's a great board with a lot of features. IMO best bang for your buck. The P5WD2-E Premium is the top of the line, but not much of a step up for the price. The DFI boards are now starting to become outdated, lacking Presler and future CPU support, not to mention they are rare.
