Also... did you lapp your CPU? Lapping mine took 20c off the idle temp. 15c off Load or thereabouts.

1. How is it possible the idle would go down more than the load?

2. Assuming ambient is the same and the cpu wasn't underclocked/undervolted how could just lapping your cpu drop your load temp by 15c?

From years of experience I have NEVER seen more than a 7c drop from lapping and that was for both the cpu and heatsink.

Discuss.

1) There is nothing saying that they should be the even. If anything the load temp is always harder to lower and idle temps don't matter. It's hard to explain because I really don't know the exact reason why but I feel that the cooler is going to reach the limit of heat energy that it can transfer to the air meaning the cooler becomes less efficient as temperature increases.

2) It could also be a combination of lapping as well as having a better CPU mount, different TIM, and different TIM application methods.

I lapped my TRUE and it dropped both idle and load temps proportionately. If I'd lapped my CPU as well, maybe knock off another 2C ????

20C seems a bit excessive but then again each case is different.

Of course but this person states the temp drop is only from lapping. No other variables applied.

they are either lying or mistaken.

Yes it is but it's very difficult to control all outside variables. There is just about always some confounding variables to consider. Ambient temperatures could have changed as well. How does OP KNOW that the temperature drop was only from lapping and not something else or a combination.

I've never heard of such a big drop. Their initial temps must have been really high to begin with, which means something was wrong. Probably a really bad mount or super hot day for high ambient temps, or the heatsink actually had a defective base. Maybe they are confusing C with F? I think that big of a drop from just lapping a normal heatsink is impossible.
