23 April 2006- Intel to cut Pentium D 9XX prices by 50%

30 April 2006- Intel will release the Pentium D 960 (3.6Ghz) for $530

Quote:
By the time the 960 launches, the 950 will have been re-priced at $316 - a reduction of 50.3 per cent.
Quote:
940's price fall from $423 to $241, a reduction of 43 per cent; the 930 will drop to $209 from $316, down 33.9 per cent; and the 920 will also end up priced at $209, 13.3 per cent below its current price, $241.
Quote:
Come Q3 and the debut of 'Conroe', the first of Intel's next-generation architecture processors, and the 9xx series' prices will be cut a second time, with the 960 coming in at $316, the 950 at $241, the 940 at $209 and the 920 at $178. The 930 will stay priced at $209, the sources claimed.
Sort of odd that the 930 and 940 will be the same price.

More news:

30 June 2006- Pentium D 920 production to be stopped

Quote:
Intel told customers it would not be upgrading the 920 to the C-1 core - it's currently on version B-1 - suggesting the part wasn't long for this world. All other 9xx dualies - the 930, 940 and 950 - are getting the update, which cuts the chips' overall power consumption.

Good Post!

This is the main reason why Intel is waiting to release the Conroe. After the Conroe's release the Netburst chips will be much harder to sell, especially if the forecasts of Conroe pricing are even close to projections.

Intel will allow these Netburst chips to sell to their own projections as Intel is more concerned (and has been for decades) with stock than their bottom line.

I love the processor wars between AMD and Intel. Newer and better processors for a lot cheaper! Could you just imagine what kind of operating systems we would have if Microsoft had a real competitor.

Just to say, AMD is going to drop prices in April as well. Not as sharply as Intel, but it is a drop.

Is that a joke or a typo?
Those articles are from 2000 and 2001.

As for amd dropping prices in April: AMD To Raise Prices In April?.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll go Intel on my next build if price/performance stays as good as it has been. I may like AMD, but Intel does look enticing.

It's called "GWT" or "Googling without Thinking".

Google is a very useful research tool, however one still needs to make use of their minds at compilation time.

well, that was interesting. Intel lowers price, Amd increases price. In my local store the x2 4800 went for 375 a while ago, now its 379. (dont ask)
Intel is looking realy good right now, but man, I cant wait for AMD's new generation. When Amd leaps foward, well it leaps forward as y'all have seen before...
Think about it, for a next generation processor to have ONLY 35 to 50 % increase in performance that Amd's current ones, that's sad.
I was expecting at least 100% or MORE!!!. but hey, that just means when AMD strikes back, they will really have something worth gawking at.

INTEL-> <-AMD currently
INTEL-> <-AMD in the future
