High Temps After HS/Fan Install?

Thread Starter
I'm getting, IMO, higher temp than what I think I should be getting with my new Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu cooler. My idle temps seemed to drop from 34ish to 25 C. But my load temps hardly dropped at all, from 48-49 to 44-45. It's not quite the improvment I was looking for. Is this normal or should I be somewhat worried? And yes, I used AS5 and did a good job cleaning the old stuff off.

did you use too much AS5 on the cpu? and is it tightly mounted? also is there variable spped fan on that cooler? if there is then turn it up on max so that is will run higher speed. also AS5 has a cure time till it is working in full effect...wait a few days to see how temps are, and too help the AS5 cure, het the cpu hot for few min, then shut it down and let it cool.... do this a few times a day, or atleast every night just shut it off

It's tightly mounted and there is no fan control for it (I didn't use the one supplied, seemed pointless if I want it running at full anyways), and I don't believe I used too much AS5.

What I did was put some on the center of the cpu heat spreader (about the size if a small BB) and mounted the cooler. Then I removed the cooler and, seeing that the spreader was not covered that much, I applied 4 tiny dabs about halfway between the corners and the center of the spreader. I don't think that it was too much but does that sound about right? This was pretty much per the FAQ on this site.

I'll wait a few days and see what happens, and I guess I can't be too dissappointed as I got the cooler for free and there was some drop in temp. I was just hoping to get some more headroom so I could overclock higher.

It takes at least 3+ days running 24/7 at idle for any results to show. 3-5°c drop at idle will show up about then.

Well it looks like you guys were right as usual. My load temps running F@H are 37 C. Very nice. Thanks for all the info and I'll probably need more as I plan on OCing soon!
