If you are saying your hard driving is making gridining noises, your hard drive could be slowing it down. Its probably close to death. A hard drive should not make grinding noises and if it does, it will slow down your pc. It has a longer seek time and most likely is what is bogging down your computer. You probably can play BF2 because its loaded into memeory but once you access a file from your hard drive it slows down. I would replace your hard drive. I have had cases like this.
