I strongly suggest a list to compare to what the "alien" has in it. Be sure to get compatible parts and all the little extra stuff you will need. spend a day or 2 checking things out and be sure before you place orders.
I strongly agree that building one is cheaper/better...but you will be losing a lot of things building one...warranty and tech support for 1...and don't forget all the software that comes installed on the "alien" rig that will need to be considered in the cost of things.
Operating System (Office software not included): Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2
Alienware Extras: AlienInspection - Exclusive Integration and Inspection - $99.99 Value - FREE!
Alienware Extras: AlienWiring - Exclusive Internal Wire Management - $99.99 Value - FREE!
Free Alienware Mousepad: Free Alienware® Mousepad

Those are the only +'s i see. The operating system is < $100. The wire management, he can do himself. The inspection, I wouldn't mind doing that myself either.

Which operating system should he grab? x64 or pro, or just home? The mouse, keyboard, and mouse pad - you can just find on newegg or the other flood of sites your looking at. Post your complete list up here so we can check it out and compare it to that of the alienware before you buy anything.

Keep the RAM. I think you should get a Thermaltake Armor case or a Lian-Li PC-65. Check those out on newegg. The PSU, check the ones we suggested and read up a little on them. Might want to check out that dfi-street psu buying guide, even if you're not buying a DFi mobo, I find it VERY helpful.

For the video card, may I suggest again to go with busa's $350 7800GTX for $220 less? It's not that much of a boost for $220 man..

I'm not suggesting he buys the alien in any way...just pointing out things to consider.
BTW...the hard drive you picked out sucks. Get a Western digital Raptor or a SATA2 drive.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701
get 2 of these and run RAID0

No offense to your buying new habits, but I used to be like that. When I recieved my 6800GT last year in July from busa, I was like.. damn I'm happy. I saved like $150 and it was "like new - in the box".

The 7900GTX is the newest card but whhhhhy spend another $220

PS
Go with either PC Power, Antech or SeaSonic with at least 550W and note the spec of "Active PFC" for quality and stability.
UltraX PS, not a good idea.
A quality PS is one of the most important parts.
Note, SLI certed and with at least 36a on the 12v+ rails total!
