upgrading system

currently I'm running
amd 3500+
1gb kingston cl2.5 ram
gigabyte k8 pci-e sli motherboard
gigabyte 6800GT video card
Western Digital Raptor 73Gb harddrive and also 120gb harddrive
no overclocking atm, too scared i'd ruin components

I was wondering what the most effective and economical upgrades I could do are, any ideas?
Currently I was contemplating either:
>> upgrade to 4000+ cpu
>> upgrade ram to 2gb (probly 2-3-2-5 ocx 2x1024mb sticks, though this would waste my current 2x512 sticks, what you reckon?)
>> get another gigabyte 6800gt and stick it in SLI mode

which priority would you put these in, based on performance increase? these are all within my price range.
looking for best performance out of games, specifically elder scrolls oblivion.
thanks!!

In that order, i'd say get another 6800GT and go SLI, if you can get a good deal on one. That will allow you to crank up the resolution in games, and turn on some heavy anti aliasing.

Then, go for another Gb of RAM and OC your CPU, make sure you get a good heatsink though

keep the chip, it works great and overclocks well. Im gonna have to say get the upgraded RAM unless the graphics from the games you play arent quite high enough for what you want.

thanks! currently I have 2x512Mb RAM, decent timings. I am a bit mystified as to whether performance would be much different if I had 2 1024Mb chips and installed them or if I had a total of 4 512 chips.
which should I go for? of course if i bought 2x1024 chips i could keep my 2x512 and have 3Gb ram.
