I don't even know that I would consider that an h50 mod seeing as how your h50 is probably acting more like a head loss than a pump. I bet the other pump is actually pushing it faster than it's capable of turning on its own. Why don't you get a shiny new water block - like a Koolance CPU-360? Oooh, so sexy - that thing alone makes it sooooo tempting to go custom watercooling.

...I don't even want to know how you made that tubing fit the h50 - because it certainly isn't 1/4" ID... but if it is, I hope you didn't purchase it just to accomodate the h50 head loss unit you have there...

i´ll buy a heatkiller 3.0 some day and use the h50 with a 240 rad for my second rig... some day....
20 for the block 10 for the rad, both sold to me.

I'm not using the rad, but the block is in use, with a MCR220, MCP350, and micro res. Getting pretty good temps, 47C max at 1.45V at 3.8Ghz, I was hitting 47C on stock volts (1.35) on my old Core contact freezer, I'm very happy with the results. I'll get pics up soon, you can add me to the club, if only using the block counts.

Hey man! I'm glad to hear you're getting good results. I remember checking to see if you put it to use yet but at the time I think you were still looking for a res. C'mon what are you waiting for? Let's see some pics. Cheers

Hmm, since the H70 is a just a H50 with a bigger rad, would getting a better 120 mm rad give me at least a 5 C drop in temps? Haven't actually modded my h50, but i am thinking about doing it before investing more money into another cooler :]

For example, a 120mm radiator like this:

Yeah you should see some difference with a thicker rad with more fins per inch as well as a push pull config with high static pressure fans and shrouds would be ideal. I'm sure the H50 could even handle a small res like the swiftech micro res which might drop it a little more.

When it's all said and done though you just spent a lot of time and money for maybe an 8c drop. Go with a custom loop if your gonna hack up your h50.

I just saw the rad you linked has an integrated res. It has a low fin density though designed for 80 cfm fans. You wouldnt see much difference between that and the stock rad. Get something with more fins.

yea this or a 240 rad.. put it on the coolest place in/on your tower and choose the place carefully because there can be a difference up to 4-6°C
maybe a small res.. but i would try it with just the 240 rad first

I got 100 bucks burning a hole in my pocket and was just looking into the H50/70 as an intro into the world of water. Trying to hit the 4.0 mark with my q6600.
But I have a question for you Smex:
After all this Modifying you don't have much of the h50 left. Why not just buy a a Block and a Pump, then boom your a Quote "REAL LOOP"?

is there any point in using silver compound with the H50? would this increase cooling performance?

you know.. i just smoke too much pot so i can´t afford more than beer and bread.. but when i get clean i will buy a 980x with a 1000$ loop made of pure gold.. just kidding

sure i will do that, but the problem is.. the cooling is sufficient enough for my 3.6ghz.. i never reach 70°C besides of linx with full mem after 30 runs i get about 72°C.
i will get a real b4d455 loop when i buy a completely new board with a new cpu/socket.. one day

the sense of this club is to show how full of ideas we were tryin to make this over-rated h50 from fake to great

ok i´m gettin too metaphoric.. i better stop hittin theese keys on my keyboard - cheers

To sum up what smex said, don't ask in this thread it's for people who have tried to modify their h50 from stock crap to custom goodness. I'm not a big fan of the h50 after using it for about 5 months but one of the more interesting things is that it does allow you to do some experimenting and modification which you can't do with any regular cooler.

Oh and don't do drugs (or at least don't talk about it on ocn)

P.S Smex I love your res, it's smexy
