Overclock on a AMD 3200+

post #1 of 47
Thread Starter
Hi. I've read alot of threads on this forums and it seems that alot of people are getting some high mhz oc's from thier chips. I on the other hand have only been able to get 100mhz more out of my chips. Now i'm not too familiar with what i should be doing with memory speeds HT speeds etc.
But here is what i've done so far
Memory Timings ---> Auto (200mhz)
FSB ---> 210mhz
Multi ----> 10x (non adjustable i think)
HT frequency ----> 5X
HT ------> 16 up and 16 down
PCI-Ex -----> 143mhz
Vcore ----> 1.4
Memory voltage ----> 2.6

When Oc'd to 2.2mhz when playing a game....it will pause for like 10 sec then continue....then pause......then continue. Increasing the Vcore doesn't help either. I'm guessing the memory or HT has something to do with why i can't OC my chip any more. Oh and according to CPU-Z:
939 Winchester, Family F, Model F, Stepping 0, Revision DH8-D0.

Please if anyone could help me that would be awesome. I'm really lost and yes i've read the posts.

Try putting your PCIe back down to 100mhz

yeah, you dont need to mess with the PCI/PCI-E bus, that causes nothing but problems and doesnt even increase performance any.

Have you locked all your other bus frequencies? If not do so, because you can accidentally crank those settings while overclocking your cpu and that will cause the system to reboot or not boot at all. So reset the cmos and lock everything thats lockable besides your overclock neccesities then go try again.

Don't really need to reset the CMOS for this one I don't think :O

Just change the CPU FSB setting to Async and the PCI bus setting to Async (async means that it will change independent of anything else--nothing will change as a result of changing your CPU FSB/PCI now). Then, you can lower your PCI back to 100 and leave your CPU at 210 if you want

Well drop your ht to 4x
drop PCIE back to 100
Set memory to 166
and I'll bet you can start increasing your system bus (HTT speed / FSB)
But reboot an leave it at 210 to make sure it's running better.

I wouldn't set the memory on a divider unless it becomes unstable--but the HT should get knocked back down to 4--nice catch on that.

I would, right off the bat. He's claiming instability. Get it stable, then get it fast.

Also, doesn't that look like 3 dimms, or very least mismatched dimms? 1.5gb Kingston? Another reason for divider. Just to see.. But w should clarify.

What ram are you running?

I just finished running this same venice at 2.6ghz on an MSI K8N Neo 4 - F, so i am kinda familiar with the bios settings... How old is your chip tho? Winchesters are a different beast then Venice cores. Your winnie may need to go higher the 1.4 for some nicer o/c's but only bump the voltage when a prime or super pi test, or windows fails.
