7800GT or X1800 XT 256mb?

Which of these 2 would you go for? A connect 3d X1800XT 256mb at £193($339USD) or an XFX 7800GT extreme ed. 256MB at £176($307 USD).£200 is absolute limit for card, after hours searching and undeciding/deciding it comes down to these 2.I think it great price for both cards but whats best?Ill be mounting a zalman vf-700 and tuning up whatever card. This last component of new machine..Athlon 64 3200 venice/Epox ep9npa ultra+/2gb G-skill HZ/Hiper type R 580w. Not concerned about price difference between 2,what would you sooner have ?Thx all.Ah...my monitor only displays 1024x768..im thinking a 512 ram card is a waste o cash. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...agx_2d070_2dxf or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...k_Only_25.html

You should definitely buy 7800GT. The 512 isn't a waste of money either, you can get much higher frame rates with it.

The pipes in this case dont actually matter as such the 1800xt is alot better.

unless you wish to spend a little extra money for the x1800xt 512mb (which is really alot better than the 256mb), then the 7800gt is better. But i suggest you invest in a 512mb x1800xt if thats an option.

No, a 512mb 7800gt will be crushed by a x1800xt 512mb, because of the huge difference between the 256mb and the 512mb of the x1800xt.

No, the 7800GT has 20 pipes, and the X1900xt has only 16 pipes but 48 Pixel Shaders

Get the 7900GT. It should be about the same price (unless its different in america). But if you can't get the 7900GT go for the x1800xt. You can volt mod it with some program. I'll have to look for the thread. But the x1800xt when volt modded competes with a 7800GTX! .

Just my 2 cents!

The x1800xt is the better card. The 7800GT has 20 pipes not 24. Get the 7900GT if you can, its the same price as the 7800GT really.

Get the 7800GT, it'll perform much better than the 256MB version of the x1800XT

Thx all...here in UK the 7900GTs are selling for same price as the 512mb X1800XT....£250..BUT,i really dont want to go above £200 for a card as i bought 2GB RAM instead of 1GB...at a res. of 1024x768 ive been led to believe that a 512mb ram card could be a worse performer than a 256mb,or certainly that i would not see the benefit of that extra 256mb...I had been set on getting the 7800gt until i saw the latest prices for the x1800s'.
