Get the 7900GT.. it performs slightly better than a 7800GTX, so its even closer to a X1800XT, plus its 90nm so it overclocks better than the 7800's.

I say get the 7900GT. Better than the 7800GT and on par with the 7800GTX. The 1800XT is a great card and should have a similar performance level, but the 7900GT is a less power hungry card and newer tech.

For 20 pounds more get the vanilla 7900GT, you will be able to OC it further than the 7800GT by quite a bit and you get 4 more pipelines

Depending on the Memory bandwidth the 512mb version of those cards can be pointless as the card will choke itslef and cannot utilize all that memory.

but the 7900GT will still use less power and prove itself more in gameplay than benchmarks compared to the x1800XT 256

The only way I would say the x1800XT was if it were the 512MB version, not the 256MB, even then the pricing still lends a win to hte 7900GT by being $100 less

Ya...im liking the look of an x1800xl,have been reading lots on it today-seems these overclock very well,up to and past x1800xt speeds, seem to best 7800gt's whenever AA/AF is enabled and found a sweet price,£164 ($286 usd),less than cheapest 7800gt here.I guess i not lookin for "the best" card and spending right up to my absolute max. i want to get the best jump from stock to overclock and spend as little as i can (i am from Scotland after all )The only "modern" game im goin to be running will be "op. flashpoint 2" when it comes out.If i get the response im lookin for from the retailer tomorrow(wee postage reduction?!) im goin to order it and with that bit i saved get an arctic freezer 64 cpu cooler.

yeah it's cheap and with the voltages up you get a great overclock. My 7800gt best in 3D05 was 85xx now i get 101xx. it runs alot hotter but my x1800xl runs alot better than my 7800gt
