Overclocking ATI Radeon 9600SE

My friend wants to know what the highest recommended overclock is for his card? He has stock cooling with a fairly well vented case.

What are the stock speeds and what are the tempatures? Really as long as it is stable and he isnt getting any artifacts it should be ok. I forget if the 9600se gets hot or not, I know my xt didn't.

ATI tool can find the optimal speeds also, if he hasn't already: http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/

O.o'' umm what?
I'm using one of those relics right now on an old machine, and trust me.
NOTHING on that card is 2.1Ghz of anything.

Heres the specs:

- Core: 325MHz
- RAM: 200/400MHz

He says his gpu temp sensor is broken. BTW: Killblade thought he was talking about his cpu, so disregard his last post.

Run ATI Tool on the card and look at the Chip type. if it is a RV350. I have that core in my NP and i got it up 2 550mzh with custom cooling and 460Mhz with standard cooling. the memory is the limiting factor though. u probally wont b able 2 over clock that much. I would put ATI Tool on the computer and Run the auto find Max 4 GPU and c what u get. It is pretty hard 2 fry a GPU. Trust me i've Tried. I even tried OCing my Core 2 800Mhz and it didn't burn up. it just got hot (80 Deg C) and reset itself. Anyway. I hope u can get some more out of that card. Best of luck. let us know on how u do.

I foolishly purchased one of these many moons ago and no matter how high I took the memory and core clocks the gain in fps was minimal.
As indicated before the memory is the weak link and the fact it is only 64bit.

Keep the overclock with ATITOOL moderate and stable as to stress it is a waste of effort.

soz if it sounds negative but that is just how it is or was for me.

I too had one of the crappy cards. The 64bit version. Most it would oc was 400 on core and 215 on the memory. Stock was 325/196.
