ok so im on the verge of buying a new hard drive i was wondering if theres a huge difference in performance in gaming between these drives:

On a 250-500GB hard drive I'd say yes, but since the data is packed so tightly on a 2tb drive, I think your seek times are going to be juuust fine. Especially on that spinpoint, which I believe is a 2 platter design.

I have most of my games installed on to myyy 500gb WD greens that are 5400RPM and I cannot notice any difference.

Depends on whether he's using it as an OS drive.

Since you lose on seek times with those slower drives, if he's using it as an OS drive, it'll have to seek around a lot more. That makes it feel slower and cuts out more of its performance.

I would go 7200RPM, even if that meant having to buy a smaller 1TB drive.

P.S. The WD2001FASS is the fastest drive of the bunch. It's about 40% faster than most other 7200RPM drives. It even beats 300GB Raptors.

It's almost twice as fast as those 5400RPM drives.

I like these charts because they're in MB/sec rather than scores. If a program like Firefox has to load 30MB off the HDD, you can see that on a WD2001FASS it might take 4 seconds, on a Spinpoint F3 it might take ~5.3 seconds, and on a WD Green ~7 seconds.

7200 or better.
How someone can even consider a 5400 rpm HD when 7200 prices are as low as they are is beyond me.

i wont be using it as os drive(have a wdblack 1tb for that). all im storing on it is media(games,movies,music,photos) how much longer will games take to load?

5400 RPM HDDs like my Seagate 2TB LP are good for low power consumption and the fact it will be used for storage where only speed matters.

+1, if its for storage purposes, go with 5400rpm greens, but for data processing and games, I'd go with a 7200rpm drive. I have always felt a difference in speed between both...
