Folders Annonymous anyone?
Been there and done that. Actually was very aggrieved to discover that installing Office 2010 reset Windows Update to "Phone home whenever you want, download what you want, and sure, restart the computer if that's what you feel like" (aka, automatic updates). But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is Windows. It's now off again and I'm back to manually running updates periodically when I stop the client under controlled conditions and can restart if needs be.
I sympathize on the crash, I worry about crashes like that when I'm away for long periods. I don't have any good solutions either, except for power blinks, I keep the bios set to simply return to "on" instead of off when the power comes back, that way I can still get in and restart everything. An actual crash where machine didn't restart would be beast of a different nature.
The good news is that it looks like my last WU is now actually reporting.
