LOL, relax buddy. The slim PS2s have been out for awhile, there would have been a recall by now. This looks to be a component failure on a voltage regulator circuit. My original (not slim) PS2 did something similar after I had it for 13 months. How convenient, 1 month after warranty ran out. Sorry for your loss bud.

I had a slimline ps2 that did the exact same thing....same place and everything....that is kinda odd man, i thought it was an isolated incident. Mine was over a year old when it happened, so no chips on the warranty, but i informed SONY and they asked me to send it back to them so they could "acertain the nature of the problem," and "use information obtained from [my] product to prevent such failures in the future."

It didn;t work so i sent it to them.
