GTX 460 Overclocked SLi

Thread Starter
Hey there guys,

I want to buy two GTX460 for SLi Mode. Because i know, that not every Game is Supporting SLi i will looked for some overclocked cards.

I choosed the "Gainward GTX 460 Goes like Hell".

Now i want to know if it's able to run two of them, together with an
"AMD Phenom II X4 965 (125W CPU/not overclocked)", and
two 2GB sticks of DDR3 RAM on a "Be Quiet! 550W" PSU.

Thank You

550 watts would let you run 1 GTX 460, to be safe i would buy a better power supply, at least a 750 watt from a good brand (corsair, antec, etc)

and it's not absolutely necessary, but i would overclock your CPU because overclocking is liek, super fun yo, and it'll create less of a bottleneck.

EDIT: also, put your rig in your sig (your sig rig) so everyone can know all the specs.

GTX 460's will run on a 550w, provided it's a quality one.

I'm not familiar with Be-Quiet though, nor do I know if that's an OEM or a rebrand of something that is a good psu.

You need a quality 650W for SLI GTX460s.

Okay, so I'm going to buy a "Be-Quiet! Dark Power Pro 750W" later.
But would it be okay to test SLi with an 550W PSU first?
If you switch off SLi (with the second card installed) is the second card running Full-Load in a Game, too? (What I mean is, if SLi is switched off (but both cards in their slots and connected) and you start a Game, will one card stay in Idle?)

First off 460's don't pull even remotely close to the rest of the 4XX cards. . . Nor do any cards in SLI because it scales back, so the total power draw of one card times two =/= SLI. More like on card times 1.8 = SLI.

You'd be close with the 550w psu, but without over clocking you wouldn't be going over. With that said, if you want to use your 550w in the meantime then be my guest. It will work and it should be able run it fine( before overclocking) until you get a newer psu.

Also that 750w, has 80 amps across four 12volt rails?

but the "GTX 460 Goes Like Hell" are factory overclocked (675MHz to 800MHz)

The 750W PSU of "Be Quiet!" has 4x 6+2 Pin (12V/rail) and is certified for Nvidia SLi and ATi Crossfire Systems.

Less then 450w at full load, and that is total system draw. So I take it back, you can overclock due to the fact that that system uses more then yours will.

Test system specs here.
