Audigy 4 is more for raw encoding etc. The audigy 2 zs would be better suited for gaming. The Audigy 4 never took off because it is VERY close to the audigy 2 but for more money. Out of the two, get the audigy 2 zs unless you can get a audigy 4 for the same price.

The Audigy 2 is best if youre just gaming. However, X-Fi will dominate both, if you can afford it. The Xtreme Music is around $115 US.

How much for the audigy 2 zs? The X-FI is better, but more expensive and I'm sure its not much different sound quality wise over the audigy 2 ZS.

It's actually a pretty big difference if the source benefits from the crystalizer. I love that thing! Also, headphone listening is a large leap in sound quality. Btw, Newegg had the X-Fi for $95 after mail in rebate earlier this week. Not sure if that changes the poster's potential list at all. If it were me, I'd hold out for an X-Fi unless that's not an option for you. Whatever you decide, good luck to ya

PS The X-Fi is the only one that can decode EAX 5.0
