a8n32 sli deluxe lan party possible?

Thread Starter
there are 2 lan ports on the mobo, i am just wondering is it possible to plug one more computer to my PC through the extra lan port, so the other computer will be able to online as well?

currently i have a router to connect 2 computers altogether. i wanna throw away my router and just plug the other computer directly to my pc and both computer can online, is it possible?

if so, will it slow down my computer?
can you direct me to a guide how to set it up? do i need to get a special type of cable to do that?

any help would be appreciated, thanks

Try This:

If you are using XP:
Open up your control panel and double click on "Network Connections".
Right click on the port you want to share and choose "Properties".
Go to advanced and under "Internet Connection Sharing" check "Allow Other Computer Users To Connect".
Click "Save". You might have to reboot.

A regular Cat5 cable should work. If not try a crossover cable.

What you are doing is acting as a router and will be serving an IP to the other computer.
It can slow your computer a little since it is doing more work..

Just use the router, it's more secure, faster, and you would have to leave the "main" pc on if you want to surf on the other.

Actually a router isn't faster. The reason for the gigabyte lan is what the fellow is trying to set up. However, I agree that for security purposes (and the fact that you need to leave the primary pc on), a router makes more sense. Considering you can pick up a 4 port router for $20 or $30 with a built in hardware firewall, thats the way to go.
