970, 980x, 990x all fit into the same category for TC.  It has nothing do with the multipliers being locked, or unlocked.

Thread Starter

I'd just make a post in the manual when you change a rule so people can follow the updates rather than a new unlocked thread full of whinning and complaining from......

^^^THIS

it's actually based on cores/threads and ppd. ALL hexacores must be in i7-1 category and if a team has a hex in i7-1 then they are limited to a 3820, 2600k, 2700k, or equivalent in ppd Xeon cpu. Only difference with a Hex in the i7-1 is the i7-2 isn't allowed a 3770k, since they average about the same ppd as a 970, 975, 980, 980x, 990x.

Eh why cant 3770k be in i7-2 if i7-1 over 4c? A 3770k is just the same as 2700k, only slightly better even then you'd have to have it clocked pretty high which not everyone can do?

Also for clarification you can have two 3770ks in one team?

Like I said, I find the rule silly.

Yes, you can have two 3770ks in one team.

My 3770k can compete neck and neck with a 970,980,990 but I have yet to be beat by a 2700k. I usually best the next 2600k/2700k by 100k points.....

Ok, but surely a SB-E chip and a 2600k would walk all over two 3770k's?

Probably but we can't be 100% even on points when we are trying to introduce new hardware into TC. Anubis and I are aware that SB-E has a huge advantage, no matter what it is paired with in the i7-2..... We're currently discussing implementing some temporary restrictions on SB-E, to minimize the points spread until we get more SB-E chips to join TC. Plz, just bare with us on this wink.gif

Just trying our best to keep up with better/newer technology, while still making it a close and fair competition for all teams. wink.gif
