CS problems

Hey guys,
I gave my brother my old Compaq Presario and he decided he wanted to start playing CS, I knew it wouldnt play source so we got 1.6. This is the computer When he plays, it will go at about 70 fps for 30 seconds and then drop to 4 fps and the ping goes up to about 4000...I cant figure out why, it meets all the specs, its running on the 3d3 setting.I put an 80 gig maxtor 7200 rpm drive in there to see if that would help the problem, but it didnt, i also changed my ethernet card, but that didnt help either. Any ideas about what might be the problem? Thank you a bunch in advance,
Zcrash

That's weird, but that computer is crap. I've had a compaq pc in the past, and nothing but trouble followed with it. My advice... get a new computer.

card dosnt support it...if i get a cheap card with open GL will that work?
And if so, the board says 1.5v agp...but when i look for cards on newegg...it dosnt say the voltage....
does the motherboard in the compaq have an agp slot? if it does then go get a cheap 6600 or 6600gt and slap that puppy in there and problem solved.... dont worry about the agp voltage, it universal... 1.5 is enough

yes it does, thanks a bunch..i was thinking something along those lines, but i wasnt sure about the voltage
post #8 of 11
you should be able to raise the voltage in the bios if you really wanted to... but i doubt there will be a need for it...
