Core I7 980X, Tri Watercooled GTX 480 - Page 8

No worries. Originally I was just running with an 8 pin and a 4 pin. When I got a new PSU for my new GPUs, I used the second 8 pin as well. No particular reason, as I don't OC high enough to need it, but it doesn't hurt so why not

A little further clarification on the molex connections; the one above the GPUs is for the top two cards, and the one on the bottom is for the bottom two.

Thanks again. Sorry to bother, does that bottom molex have a cover on it? I looked instructions vs what I could see and where that one was there is a gray looking plug.

The bottom molex opening is actually facing downwards, instead of facing out, to help free up space for a card in the bottom PCI slot.

Ok, I have gotten some great ideas here, and dangerously, have thought of a few of my own. Watercooling will come, but just for the heck of it, Im going to do this in three stages.

1. Stock Case fans, Stock CPU cooler, and stock cards.

2. Higher end Air CPU Cooler, better and more case fans.

3. Full blown custom water cooled setup.
Plan on recording steps at each stage.

Getting my ram, ( Thanks to whoever reccomended the 12 gig corsair kit, and the 3 GTX 480s, a High quality air cooler and some fans ordered tonight. Any thoughts on best air CPU cooler? Ive looked at a lot of tests, and like the looks of the TUNIQ extreme 120, (whatever I get will be for sale BTW, after I complete my watercooling set up)

Im hoping by the end, I can show a nice progression downward in temps. Im going to try to make a graph for each step, and run the same tests each time. What do you guys thinkl?

Hey RacWisco, I have a Tuniq tower 120 somewhere in a box here, I had that on my old pentium 4 prior to watercool it, maybe it only needs a new clamp for the motherboard/cpu ?

it's not an 'extreme' afaik, only a regular tuniq tower, worked like a champ and in perfect condition!

2 of the best cpu coolers (pricing is $AU from AUS - but you get the idea)

I would not recommend the cooling path you've chosen - it'll be an unnecssry cost

Just stick with OEM cooling or get some cheap aftermarket cooling and then move onto a full blown watercooling

If you have Aywun coolers in the USA the V10 for AU$40 (or around US$30 or less considering we have hardware more expensive here - the i7 980x costs $1500 :0 and yes ppl buy it... and yes some ppl buy it for gaming)
