ya.. same chip here... stock IS 13x166. but my northbridge is very hot to the touch. In order to get a higher oc for this chip, i require 2 things.
1) better psu
2) northbridge waterblock

when i get these things and can get higher than my current, ill either bump this thread or make a new one (about oc'ing the 3000+ and how to watercool incredibly cheap)

Okay I had a look at your cpu-z screenshots and I see that you can change the multi..!!! One question if you have ever got the CPU heatsink or waterblock off make sure you take note of the full OPN and stepping codes because to have a XP3000+ unlocked if very rare indeed and I would along with others here be most interested to see what was marked on the core.

Back to your overclocking dilema.

The use of a quality stable power supply to the motherboard is critical. I also would suggest staying at x12 or lower on the multi with a higher fsb ie: 195 upwards. Most XP 3000+ tend to top out at 2.52GHz my own I have a locked multi and 2.40 is max at 184x13.

Also the RAM your run will have a huge affect on the overall overclock performance. The best way to configure if RAM allows is for a 1:1 ratio with nice tight timmings and a high fsb.

As for watercooling the Northbridge it will help especially if you are pushing high voltage through it but again I would be reluctant to do so until a stable supply of power can be given.

cheers

The psu is just a 400 watt that came with one of my friends' case.
2x512MB Corasair ValueRam (the cheap ****). I haven't done anything in the ram area, except with changine the fsb, the ram went from 200mhz to 220 ish.

I'm going to see how high of a fsb i can actually get (starting with the lowest mult(5x)) and go from there.

Thread Starter
well 2.3 isn't much more than 2.1. I'll just stick with my job and buy a 64-bit cpu.

Waterblock won't make much differance, put a heat sink with a fan will be all you will need.
