only lazy people reformat!

Boot into safe mode and use system restore back to a date before you got the rogue AV. Then make sure you have a good AV to prevent it from happening again. This has happened a few times on my mother's old laptop.

I dealt with "antivir" recently.
Check your running processes and see if "SVCNOST" is running.
it's also an infected file.

Best of luck. I dont really have any advice. it was a long battle. Very aggressive virus.

If it's only antivir, it's easy to deal with by locating it in safe-mode and removing it.

I would definitely try to boot from a live cd and run an anti virus. Make sure the CD is read only, so the virus cant touch it.

I'm gonna try and do a system restore and then run malware bytes, hopefully that will work. If not then I will try the LiveCD thing.

Just posted this in another thread where a guy was dealing with a suspected virus. Lifehacker had an article a couple of months ago with a list of some solid Live CDs - I've used Hiren's Boot CD in the past, and they also suggested taking a look at live CDs of Ubuntu or Windows PE to do some poking around.

If it doesn't work, and you do it correctly, I will punch my 40" samsung and film it.

I actually just read a guide on this very subject here: http://remove-malware.com/antimalwar...ke-anti-virus/. This will tell you exactly how to get rid of it, but you need another computer (I assume you have one as you typed this thread).
