3 levels? do u spit on easy too ?

i love halo 1 on legendary. the difference in tactics and weapon choice between legendary and heroic makes it a whole new game.
plus the mutliplayer is better than halo 2. if halo 1 had live play, i could go on Hang 'Em High all day

Sounds more like he has a tough time on Legendary LMAO! no offense but you guys sound like you suck at Halo maybe its just me but driving the warthog couldn't be simpler, though I do have one friend who also complained about it.....and how could you have NEVER played Halo 2 yet? thats practically a sin against humanity! LOL!

By the way if you like the Halo story line be sure to check out the books, there are 3 of them, 1 takes place before the first Halo (The Fall of Reach) one takes place during Halo 1 the game with some more back story (The Flood) and one takes place between Halo 1 and Halo 2 (First Strike) I bet they're making one that takes place during Halo 2, I sure hope so.

1. Simplistic maps. Heck, they were barely even 3D. Except for a few levels where you fly up or down, the maps are pretty flat. This is probably a concession to make aiming easier with a joypad, but jeez, booooring. Doom 3 and Quake 4 were full of interiors with multi-level structures, creating a much more engaging environment. Halo has room after room of the exact same architecture. Not similar, but exactly the same. It was not uncommon for me to lose track of where I was because every frickin room looked the same!

2. The enemies...so lame. The Covenant are our mortal enemy? Come on, the majority of them run around like a fat kid with ADD shrieking "He's here!" with a chipmonk voice! How is that a threat to humanity?!? And then the Flood...um, Half-Life rip off, anyone? And the little ones...sure, a swarm of balloons can kill me if I don't get all of them, but is that fun somehow? No, give me Doom 3's actual "evil-looking" demon monsters personally. Even the Strogg in Q4 were better, IMHO.

3. This is probably just me, but I had one heckuva time controlling the warthog. Why can't it just drive like a car in car games? But again, that's just my preference.

Remember, I did say I liked it; so don't think I'm a Halo-basher. The two-weapon max and the recharging shields add a tactical element missing from straight run-n-guns like Doom and Quake. And I really loved controlling that big tank thingamajig, I forget what it's called. Overall I would give Halo a 7 out of 10: a pretty good FPS, but with some obvious flaws that keep it from being "great". It's certainly not in the same class as some of the great FPSs like Half-Life 2 and Max Payne.

I haven't played Halo 2 yet, but it's on my list.
Dude the game was made in 2001. Its almost 5 years old.

Just because there are a ton of games I would rather play, and only so many hours in the day. I limit myself to playing only one game in a genre at a time (while juggling 4-5 games overall usually), and there have just been too many good FPSs on the PC to keep me busy.

What's your point? Good 3D map design with lots of z-axis displacement has been around since Quake 1. Enemies that actually instill a sense of being dangerous have been around since frickin' Doom.

I am more than capable of recognizing a game's positive traits in the context of the era in which it was released. But the age of the game has nothing to do with mediocre design. Much better FPS games existed when Halo came out, so all of the fuss about it is silly.

Half Life, CS, Unreal Series, Golden Eye, Quake, Timesplitters, Red Faction, Deus Ex.

The story blew in Halo like stories do in most FPS games. The most I can say about Halo is that it had chain of events that had no meaning and only added obstacles to extend the time played. The gameplay did not require much skill, seeing as your crosshair is enourmously large for a majority of the guns, aiming really isn't and issue unless you decide to use the sniper rifle.

FEAR had a story, Halo didn't.

I get the feeling that you're limiting yourself to console FPS, because Half-Life smacked the crap out of Halo. And I only started with that one because most people probably agree that Half-Life was the premiere game of its day. I actually think that Deus Ex and System Shock 2 are better examples of games that smack the crap out of Halo; both have complex original stories and multiple ways to solve any situation.

You're not really being coherent here...all TVs are 2D. Discussions about 3D maps are talking about the volumetric space that exists in the game world, not the "flat image" displayed on your TV screen/monitor. And the simple fact is that most of Halo, the level design was fairly horizontal. Walking up a hill doesn't count here, they were able to fake that in Doom, a game with pure 2D maps. I'm talking about enemies on bridges or platforms above or below you when I talk about more interesting 3D level design. Obviously the Halo engine could handle this sort of thing, as evidenced by the occasional flying parts; so I actively question why they didn't do more interesting design with the walking parts more often?

And I notice you're conveniently ignoring the complaint about the repetivie room designs...I'll just assume you agree with me.

(And just so you know, I was an HDTV early adopter too. So don't try to play that card against me, it doesn't work.)

Well, I just finished the Normal level. At least I know what to expect now. Fighting the Flood on legendary is suicide...they're so much stronger and hit so much harder than I do. I'm still trying to get through the library in one piece. And no I didn't cheat on either, Normal is sooo easy compared to Legendary. But of course I was up late....zzzzz....4:45AM....zzzzz
