i7 Build - Cthulhu (56k - feh!)

Here is my build log for my first build in many years. It went pretty easy and I owe a lot to this forum and the great advice that I've seen given here. I was looking at Digital Storm building a system for me, but realized how much $ I could save and how much more I could get for my $2300.

Everything but the monitor and package from Frozen PC arrives

The first thing I did was to install the Scythe fans in the top, 1 in and 2 out.

Corsair's PSU came in such a cool little bag. Too bad the case sisn't come in one too.

Power supply is installed and cable routing began. One of the reasons for buying the 800d is it's great cable management.

Beware the OCTOCASE!!!!

The top two SATA 3 hot swap backplates removed to accommodate my SATA 6 SSD and hard drive.

The broken power cable on my Zalman fan controller. RMA time. My top fans are now hooked together in a rat's nest of wires and plugs.

Motherboard, CPU, and Memory installed

H50 installed as exhaust with push and pull configuration.

I powered up and went straight into bios and it shut down after about 2 minutes. Tried it again and same thing. I finally got into PC health and found out my cpu was shutting down due to high temps. The H50 wan't working right. I put the stock fan on and set it up as intake...same issue. I took of the heatsink and added a tiny bit more of TIM and re-seated it, but rotated 180 degrees with the logo upside down. Problem solved! I don't know if I didn't have it seated right or if maybe I had an air bubble.

I got windows and MW2 installed and began to play. Wow, so this is what the game is supposed to look like. I had been playing at 800x600. Very happy!

I'm about 90% done with the Gelid Icy vision to install and the push pull fans to re-install. I've also got to wait for the RMAed fan controller to arrive.

I'll post more pics of the finished system this week. Thanks for looking.

Congrats on your new build...looks awesome. Be sure to check your CPU temperatures using RealTemp so you know what your actual temperatures are.

lucky! i need that TX950W or a HX1000 for the extra 2 pci-e connectors. a HX850 would do butt i want more wattage for tri-fire.

you should do something nice like paint or something. cathodes at least

and unfortunately, from the looks of things, my guess is the NB cooler is designed for incidental airflow from a heatsink. in a low-airflow case such as the 800D, i would recommend zip-tying or clipping a 60-80-92mm fan to it (idk actual size). any airflow would help it. try a low airflow SilenX fan. I modded my OCZ XTCv2 cooler with 2 8db 10cfm 60mm ones

Yeah, on my old machine with 20 FPS. I'll be installing it within the next few days. I can't wait to see how it plays now.

I'd suggest you to use x2 of the Scythe Gentle Typhoons on the H50, those are the best fans for the H50, and you'll probably see a good change in temps.

Anyways, great Pc, enjoy it.
