AX800 vivo can't record video

Thread Starter
Hi all.
Card is Asus AX800 pro/tvd flashed to 16 pipelines and back to bios, done over a year ago and never any problem. Recently wanted to edit some video and pluged in the 9pin to svideo in/out and comp in/out. plugged in camera and checked on TV svideo that it works. plugged into card lead & tried 3 different video capture programes but could not get any picture. Adjusted all options in software, tried comp inpu but no picture. The apps all recognise "rage theatre capture device" but I cant get any kind of signal.
I wonder if by flashing the card bios for 16 pipelines it lost the plot when it comes to VIVO. Any ideas on this would be really helpful. I have searched around and found this as a rare issue but I haven't found where anyone has resolved the problem.
Thanks for reading this and if you have any clues please let me know. Cheers.

I'd try to put the old bios back in to see if it works. It takes only 5 min to do it and you'll know for sure if it is a bios issue.

Hi Dragosmp.

Thanks for that, I did put the old bios back after it was flashed for the 16 pipelines. The card is set at the original speeds also. I read somwhere about the catalyst drivers not unpacking the WDM drivers properly. So I found them in the install directory and reinstalled them, they show up in the hardware Mgr in the sound and video tree. Has anyone used the vivo sucessfully after a bios flash or even before for that matter. Any input gratefully received as always. Thanks Hikey.

Found reference to same problem at http://forums.techpowerup.com Apparently some software works and some not, including apps bundled with card. I will try the open source DC program and if it works will post the results and links. In the mean time anyone else got this problem or been round the block with it and given up? Cheers Hikey.

Ok, tried a selection of apps and only managed to cause a system hang when the preview screens run for a short time (1-180+ secs) Still can't get any image even on the DC apps. I guess the only other thing I can try to test it further is the s-video out signal, if thats there I assume the card is working and it must be a driver thing (have to borrow a long lead for this so a weekend thing). Does this issue arise for people using the vivo for inputing the Xbox signal? I imagine the input is the same signal just a different source, so any solution that works for that would work for me? Any suggestions gratefully received. Hikey.

Same problem here! I have a x850 Pro AGP flashed to XT. A month ago, everything was working fine with my previous setup (Athlon 2400+ w/ MSI mobo) even though it had a modded bios.... So it has nothing to do with the bios.

I bought an AMD 64 with ASRock 939 Dual and installed the card. Now, video capture won't work... I've tried Movie Maker 2 and Ulead DVD DiskRecorded and I can't capture anything. However I can some times see video feed when using Ulead, but I can't record (it says corrupted someting, something).

I've reinstalled my AGP driver and video driver, still won't work...

Hi Linoleum. Thanks for confirming the bios is not the problem. I have spent a few days changing the card bios with the hex editor thing and haven't managed to solve the video in problem. I was convinced this was where the problem was after reading up what I could find on the video bios. I read one of those things that make you think "Oh Crap" I should have realised that, every 12 pipline card would have different faulty pipelines so a different bios config for the fuses thing and possibly other assigned hardware like the Rage2000 theatre chip. I know the pipelines are OK but have no idea if anything else was set differently. Any way thanks for stopping me here as it was really teadious and not getting anywhere. I have come across a few discussions in other topics that reference the Digital Rights Management DRM thing as being part of the problem, suggesting the current catalyst drivers WDRM part (WDRM? I cant think, is that what I mean?) dont work. The solution suggested is the older versions of catalyst or extracting the drivers and installing into the current catalyst. If I can find the spirit may try this next weekend, I will post the result for what its worth. Cheers Hikey.

Edit: found this post, hope its OK protocol to post it. http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/97
quoting from the said post; "Connecting a DVD player to the VIVO connector no longer results in the video preview window failing to provide a preview when attempting to capture" I will give it a go.

I think it's WDM (Video in portion of the Catalyst drivers), not WDRM... On my side, I think I'm gonna give ATI a call to see if they can be of any help. Who knows!

UPDATED: I called them they were useless and didn't help me at all...

Found a solution: did a fresh new installation of Windows on a new partition and everything works fine...

Good to hear you have a solution. I have given the older driver thing a shot but even on a new OS it doesn't solve the problem for me and the latest don't either, so it begs the question what drivers are you using? If its the latest then I am gonna just give up. Well for a month or two anyway. Or maybe I should consider the cards vivo just shot and get a cheap capture card. Decisions decisions.
