Need some advice

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
I had a Geforce 6600 for about four days and blew it out (the fan stopped working and got to hot) So my mom said she can return it to bestbuy for me and exchange it for another but they had none left in stock so she got me the ATI Radeon X1300 pro 256MBb AGP, I havent opened it yet im thinking should i wait for the 6600 to come back in stock or what? i usually play BF2 and i found this chart.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...n-x1300_3.html

and the X1300 pro clearly beats the 6600 but with the lack of its pipelines im not to sure if thats a accurate chart. I just want to know if i should keep it or if anyone has had any experience with both cards and which performs better? Thanks in advance.

I'm surprised that the X1300 pro beats the 6600.

It certainly does not beat the 6600GT so if you have a GT or are getting a GT I would stick with the GT.

Wait for the 6600. It's better. The chart is wrong. I don't know how they tested the cards, but 6600 is a better performer with 128-bit memory bus and 8 pipelines. Who knows? You might be able to unlock a few more pp.

@Ropey: I don't think he had a 6600GT.

Yea i had the Geforce 6600 256mb 128bit but i killed it it ran pretty good, in BF2 i had all settings on high except Lighting and textures and got 50-60 FPS and thats really good. I just want the same FPS with the same settings but i dont think this card can do that so i will wait for it to get in stock

I'm not sure anymore as it seems by research that the X1300 Pro consistently takes out the 6600.

My links show that as well.

But isn't that the 6600 128mb? or does that not matter the 256mb and 128mb perform same?

Yes it is the 128MB model but the differences in speed are marked. You can't open in up and test it can you?

I would be interested in you real life gameplay as synthetic benchmarks are not as good an indicator as a person using the silicon for real gameplay and you know the 6600.

It seems that the 6600 beats the X1300 in opengl but then that was to be expected.

Done. GFX card was installed and everything. When i went to play BF2, games took a little longer to load and the screen was a bit jumpy so i just turned down Geometry and that fixed the problem. I also recieve about 8FPS less, so overall the Geforce 6600 256mb 128-bit AGP out performs the X1300pro but i am still happy the gfx look the same.
