New Rig, Now What?

Thread Starter
1st off, been outta touch with this stuff for a few years and EVERYTHING changed!!!

Ok SO I purchased all these parts (listed below) slapped it all together, and guess what... all worked 1st try! Yay! Now I'm trying to just get to work at stock level and having issues... will want to OC later.

My ram is supposed to run at 500Mhz, 2.5-4-4-8 but bios will only boot at 400max for some reason even with latest update. Any suggestions?

No where near this answer yet... but I play CS:S and figured this rig would blow it away... I'd say it runs it but... I ran the video stress test and it says I'm getting only 54 fps... That sucks, had better with my AMD 2400+ and an ATI 9600pro.

Thanks for any and all help!!!

Most likely your mobo is limiting your ram to DDR400. That's all most mobo's allow. The DDR500 you have allows for extra overclocking room on your CPU. When your get to your overclocking phase, and running 2.5ghz on the CPU you'll see your memory jump to 250mhz.

Did you install chipset drivers? Video drivers?

Your ram is running at 400 because your default cpu FSB is 200. 200x2=400mhz ram speed. If you want the ram to run faster, you'll will need to raise the FSB which will also overclock the processor. Unfortunately, you cant just boost the ram upwards and leave the CPU at stock, unless you are using intel/ddr2.

Yeah, usually the reason to get high speed ram is for the headroom when you start to oc. On the plus side, when running it stock speed you can tighten the timmings, I bet you could run that 2-2-2-5 no problem.

cant really be more updated than that. Oh, one more tip, when overclocking, bring down the hyper transport to 3X so the total will stay around 1000mhz, i made that mistake once and the ram kept pulling me back.

Question.

Loaded what I thought was latest MotherBoard Monitor and it didn't support the Asus A8N- series???

What stability utilities are standard now? Is Prime95 the one to go with or the Mem86?

Any thought?
