MT37 Turion Questions

Thread Starter
Are the Turions a good CPU? If so, is the Lancaster a good core? I am looking at a MT37 for my Epox 8npa. Do they overclock well? How far past 2.0 would I get? Or should I just go with the standard 3700+?

Note: This is all socket 754.

Thanks in advance.

Also, what is the startup voltage for these? The epox can only go .3 over detected. So if the chip gets detected as 1.02v volts I will only be able to go to 1.32v. The chip is rated for 1.2v stock. This may limit my OC. So if jrabb reads this I hope he can tell me if it came up detected at the rated voltage or if he had to set it manually.

I wouldnt get it with 2.0 GHz, 800MHz Bus Speed it's ok for a laptop but you would be better off getting the 3700 + ClawHammer youl probably OC better on it and more, and the voltage on it at start is 1.4V .

Do not get a Lancaster, they rarely overclock well. Turions and Newark cores are the best overclockers for socket 754, followed next by the Venices and clawhammers. However, because of your Vcore situation, OCing a Turion might be a little tricky, and Newark cores are hard to find. The 3700+ is a solid core at stock speeds but it's smarter to get the same core but for cheaper, and a lower multi...as long as your motherboard is compatible. You can find DTR mobile clawhammers for $115 on newegg, and it's the same as a 3700+, just w/ the ihs already removed and a lower multi.

So far all of my mobile 754 cpu's have to be manually set, and only certain mb will allow you to use it to its full ability, I use the DFI lanparty on mine, some gigbyte's & epoxes will worf though. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input guys. As you can see by my sig, I'm gonna go with the standard 3700+. Mainly due to the Epox's tendency to not like mobile CPUs. I did a little google-ing and found that Turions/mobiles will run great stock, but OC'ing is hard due to the volt issue.

If you want to keep using the Epox board I would not get a mobile chip, you will probably be able to run it stable at stock speeds, but oc'ing will be very limited by the Epox vcore adjustments.
