Looks like there are some changes coming.

I NEED RESPONSE FROM THE TEAM. I may be listed as the Team Captain but we are a team and I value your input. Get back to me as soon as possible. Thanks guys.

Quote:
Proposed change for the i7/i7-2 positions
Well, you probably saw the debating over the past week in the General Discussion thread, but if not, what happened was some of the hexcore Folders in the TC complained that their team's configuration (hexcore + i7 Bloomfield) could not compete with the 2x 2600k combination other teams had.

After a lot of talking, arguing, and PPD gathering, we've since confirmed the following reasonable expectations for the CPUs:

Hexcores on -hugeadv WUs - 100-104k PPD
i7 2600ks on -hugeadv WUs - 88-90k PPD
i7 2600ks on -bigadv WUs - 50k PPD
i7 Bloomfields on -bigadv WUs - 38k PPD

So, the change I recommend is the following:
"Only one i7 per team may Fold -hugeadv WUs."
While this does mean less PPD overall from some of the teams, it allows some level of leeway for one of the i7 Folders in the team, and is the most conventient way to address the points difference.

Another change which was suggested was the following:
"For every x points an i7 Bloom submits, they will be awarded y extra points, to make up the difference between configurations."
I'm less enthusiastic about this, since it's basically inflating the points of the CPUs, and I'm not certain that's a path we should be going down.

However, if a majority of you prefer the second option, we can begin discussion appropriate values for x and y.

So, please reply to this PM in the next five days with your vote. Feel free to ask me some more questions about the proposed changes, but I think there has been ample time to debate the matter, so I won't be accepting any other suggested changes/tweaks.

zodac
I would have to agree with option 1. But which i7 is best able to to the hugeadv? the 2600k or the 980x? I need a little feedback from you i7 guys on this one
**(editted because I misread it. I though it said we were only allowed 1 i7 folder. my mistake)**

I think doing the first option will make it harder to fill the i7 -bigadv position in the future. If someone gets a i7 and they fold, why wouldn't they want to do -hugeadv wu's?

The second option would allow for more flexible team make-up. Let's say Bulldozer comes out and can get 1.3 times the ppd as a 1090. That could be factored in to allow a team member to still compete if they change their rig. I do realize this would lead to someone being a "handicapper" that would assign ratios to each cpu.

I don't agree with inflating the points an i7 gets though just to try to make up the difference. Not to mention that different overclocks, setups etc are going to net different results thus leading to a issue with the point system. I say only have 1 i7 hugeadv folder is fair. most of not all the teams do have at least 1 i7 folder capable of running hugeadv. Its those teams that have 2 or more that are at a severe advantage. Limiting it to only 1x hugeadv folder does even it out a bit more.

Its not as if the hugeadv folders can only pick the hugeadv units. This is delegated by the server you get assigned when downloading.

Actually they can. If you tell the system it has 12 or more cores, you can get -hugeadv, 8-11 -bigadv.

Im using the corefix hack in native ubuntu(to show 12 cores and it works), and i didnt get a hugeadv right away. It took me a few wu's to actually get one. Its gonna take the better part of 4 days to complete it. In that time im putting out no points(as far as the team comp goes anyway).
