Keep in mind that Newegg does not test any of their refurbished boards and therefore does not warranty them. You buy the board at your own risk and most of them are OEM which means the manufacturer will not warranty them as well.(at least ASUS wont) You might save some decent money going with the refurbished board, but you'll have the warranty and the piece of mind that you can RMA if something goes wrong when buying a new one.

i thin you see a lot of refourbed because people dont know how to build a computer and thinks something is broke when everything is fine its just the builder. so i think most boards that say refurb are boards that people returned and they stuff back in a new box and sell them.

a lot of the times the referb boards are in better shape then the OEM ones because they go through a lot more testing to make sure they are ok. brand new OEM boards dont go through as much testing and that is why the arrive DOA sometimes.

I've ordered 3 Retail boards in the last year, not a one has failed. I got 1 refurbished video card this year (ordered a new off eBay, got screwed) and it was DOA.

I never buy refurb.

I would never buy anthing computer related on ebay new or used. I got screwed over 2 years ago on a "new" 9600XT (didnt know what kind it was and couldnt RMA it, and guy wouldnt respond) and a dual layer dvd burner (drive wasnt acting right so I flashed the firmware and drive totally died and it cant be RMA'd since I wasnt the original purchaser(even after some faked invoices)). I would totally trust newegg for a refurb.

yeah, me either anymore, and if I have to, I know now not to go to Paypal for help, just contact my bank and have them reverse charges. Course, you have to know this, as Paypal jerks you along for 30 days, before telling you to pound sand. Of course, you have to file your claim with your bank within 30 days of the charge.

Actually, the refurb I got when I ordered new came from Newegg. The idiot on eBay actually bought the refurb from Newegg and had them ship it directly to me, which is how I knew it was refurb, it's right in the freakin part number on the invoice!!
Paypal stated the invoice didn't prove anything and I needed to have an "independent appraisal" from a local store.

Actually, it was more than likely just a inventory oversight which would be more noticable on refurbished parts since when those are gone, they are gone, they can't just order more. It unfortunate, but given the volume they deal in, it's bound to happen.
