My main point by saying bleeding edge
is that to put such a high standard (running bigbigadv) on a piece of hardware that can barely make a deadline doing so, unless its overclocked to the hilt is wrong. I’m not saying you shouldn’t do it, just that it should not be judged at a 50k ppd standard because that’s not realistic for the majority. In reality only some are going to do that and they will be rewarded with a small increase for their work.
Just like those with 2600ks get rewarded for their extra effort in overclocking and corehacking
A 2600k can be set up to run bigbigadv with ease with clocks as low as 4.5 or possibly lower? (im guessing here) Most if not all people can do that in their sleep and not have to worry too much about the deadline or cooling. That’s why it looks like that’s the standard for those chips - Because most if not all can accomplish that with ease.
If a bloom was just as easy to overclock and would make the deadline just as easy then there would be no argument, but they are completely two diff pieces of hardware and should be judged accordingly.
The fact that we still don’t have hard numbers for someone running a bigbigadv on a bloom only proves that point, it’s because its few and far in-between for that setup to come together, not impossible, just hard.
That's the thing though is that we're not, the number that we've decided upon for 2600K is 80K that is not easy at all but that's what we've decided upon. So we'd be allowing wiggle room to either take a lower OC and still hit the target for blooms or take a higher OC and get over their target if we do as you've suggested, because for the 2600k we've already decided that their target is the max they're capable of period. My 2600k getting 43K in a VM would be getting half of what I'm 'supposed' to be getting but we're going to make the bloomfields target what is easy for them?

That's what we need to see; is the OC required for P690x (both of them) a reasonable ask?
And even if it is, is it leaving much time to complete the WU? It's often been commented that the corehack shouldn't be allowed, and I've made my views clear on that, but I would not feel happy basically forcing people to try and do P6904s when it's barely possible, resulting in loads of WUs failing/not making the deadline in time.
All the numbers we've been tacking to each HW haven't been reasonable numbers, so they need not be reasonable for the bloomies either. Wwe've been asking for 2600ks with more near 1.5v and 2133Mhz ram running native but now we are worried about how high the bloomies would have to OC? I understand they need to be capable of completing a 6904 for us to use that number as their max but it doesn't need to be easy for them to do it, none of the other target numbers have been easy.Edited by juano - 9/20/11 at 2:30pm
