The stock TIM that is on the plate is VERY good, you just have to be very careful is placing so you don't get bare spots between the plate and Cpu. I have both a H50 and H70 and the H70 is considerably better in cooling, though I replaced it when I got the 980X so the CPU is also part of it.
If you remove the H50, you'll have to clean and replace the tim again. The last time I did that, I also lapped the H50 (the copper plate is good but a little rough), and that seemed to take a couple of degrees C off.
