I don't think the 6099 are bigadv and running anything in the background will effect you PPD.

Axi, 6099 is just large smp. You will not get many 6900/6901 work units using 8 cores.

You should do a VM of Linux and install a corehack to 12 or 16. I would be really interested to see how your chip does on 6900/6901/6903/6904.

I'm still not sure which units are bigadv, from what I can tell, 6903/04 are the money makers and need the core hack, and 6901's are regular bigadv, not sure though.

And Teamviewer was the only thing in the background besides uTorrent seeding.

You think? I'm completely willing to try the corehack trick, would it work with the VMWare 3.0 client and dedicated folding client I'm using? If so, how would I set that up, been so long since I dabbled in Linux command-line for anything more then file management.

it likely won't finish 6904 in the deadline and there isn't any way I'm aware of to reliably get 6900 and 69001 but not 6903 or 6904. Give it a shot if you'd like and let us know how it does but don't let it keep getting WUs that it won't be able to complete in time.

So would I simply use the web interface provided by the VMWare client and change # Cores to 12 and reboot it and then F@H should see I have a 12-core processor?

My X6 is 6 mins short on TPF on a 6904 running Native Ubuntu with a clock speed of 3.8GHz, 2.0GHz CPU/NB, and 8GB of 1333MHz CL9 RAM. I think it will be close myself.

Axi, set it up and see. Use Digigami's guide.

You need VM Ware 3.0.0 so you can hack it to use all 8 cores, or you can use Virtual Box by Oracle.

The corehack is a script you use in linux to make it show more cores than you actually have.

Hmm, I'll have t do that tonight then, a little more work then I thought it would be.

Has anyone else used the VMWare dedicated Linux folding client and enabled the corehack on it?

It looks like all I would really have to do is make the corehack script and move that to the start-up directory.

Yes I have, both VM and Native. It works easily on both. By the way, dedicated folding and VM Ware is kinda bad vs dedicated folding and native Linux. Less PPD in VM.
