AMD Super Budget Build (pics)

Thread Starter
So basically I wanted to build a cheap AMD based PC that could game and still be fast enough for a main PC.

I visit my parents quite often (2 weekends a month) to help out with my families business. So during these weekends I wanted to have a PC instead of my gaming notebook because I like being able to upgrade my parts and also because its way cheaper.

I sold that gaming notebook for $500 a few days ago and I decided this was the right time for my build.

Parts I already had:

Antec Ghetto Case ($10 AR)
Antec 430w PSU (at my apt) ($30)
2GB DDR2 800 RAM (free from brother)
9800GT (at my apt) ($50 off CL a while back)
DVD reader (salvaged)
WD 2500AAJS HDD ($10)

So the total for all of that stuff: $100

Microcenter has a real awesome promo going on where if you buy certain processors you get a free mobo or $40 off a board.

I chose the AMD Phenom II 555 Black Edition and paired it with a cheap Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H for a total cost of $120 out the door for the pair.

Got home and installed everything together, unlocked the extra cores and I am sitting pretty. AMD ****ing owns in the budget segment!

So the specs right now:

AMD PII 555BE Unlocked Quad at 3.5ghz
Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H
Crucial 2GB DDR2 800
WD 250GB HDD
Turbolink 420W PSU

So total cost: $220

Beige is back baby well at least it'll look a like a sleeper lol

it looked so much nicer in person I need to clean the case.

I had it upto 4ghz but I am gonna need a better cooler. Too bad Microcenter doesn't have the Hyper 212 for $20 anymore

I'll have an EVGA 7900GS in there later today and also another 2GB stick of ram. The PSU in there right now is a joke of a PSU and I am actually surpised its handling a quad core. I need to find time to get my 9800GT and Antec EA430W so I can complete this build.

Not too bad... $220 for these specs:

AMD PII 555BE Unlocked Quad at 3.5ghz
Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-S2H
Crucial 4GB DDR2 800
XFX 9800GT 512MB
WD 250GB HDD
Antec EA 430W PSU

Dude, that's awesome! Lol, I'll sell you a EA650 that needs to be RMA for 30.
You need a better casing.
Spend a bit more on a CM 341 that not only looks nicer, but has more cooling potential than this thing.
Also, if you do get the 341, get three more fans (2x side, 1x front) to complement your current exhaust R4.

Lower the clocks on that thing a little and you may be able to pass it off with a CM Hyper TX3.
And get a better PSU! Like a Seasonic S12 II 420, or a Corsair CX400.

Just my 2C though.

Congrats on a successful and cheap build!

not a bad proposition but I think my soon to be here antec PSU will be up to snuff. My brother has a Corsair HX520 lying around that I am trying to get my hands on but honestly I don't think its necessary over an EA430.

thanks man and good advice but I am going to be using the pc max 6 days a month so I don't think it deserves a nicer case or any more cash. I have Rocketfish full tower (lian li rebadge) and a gigabyte aurora 570 in the basement but I like smaller cases and this one fits the bill well enough. I think I have another 80mm fan that I will hook up to the side panel to provide a little more air flow. I do also have a Zalman Reservator 1 V2 that I could hook up to the CPU and GPU but I think it would be better served on my HTPC where silence is golden.

That's a great idea. This heatsink looks so pathetic lol. I am gonna keep my eyes on the FS section for the bigger one.

Some more pics as well. Got my 7900GS installed and also got an HX520 in there powering it all.
