500mhz memory suppprted by mobo?

Thread Starter
Are there any mobo's out there that claim to support 500mhz or better memory stock? Looked around at the current top DFI stuff, etc., and all seem to list up to 400mhz memory supported. Is this limited by the chipset involved, or the cpu, or both. Just curios, thinking of possibly building an opty sytem or something else to hit 4ghz or better oc. Any suggestions without spending a couple of grand on the project? Don't give a rat's butt about graphics, just sheer number crunching speed (seti).

You can always get better memory than your mobo can handle. But it will run at the speed of the lowest stick until you overclock you memory.

I understand this....I am currently running 500mhz memory on my epox 8rda3+pro mobo, but can only get it up to 434mhz due to oc limits (not exactly sure yet where the bottlneck is yet, cpu, ram, mobo, chipset...have to do some time consuming testing to find out). What I am wondering is if there are any mobo's that are set up to support 500mhz memory from the get-go.

There were some DFIs and Asus mobos that "unofficialy" support DDR500, there is an article on anandtech that shows how they work on the DFI lanparty ultra-D:

Hope you'll find it useful!
