ok right now its idle at "79C" I just touched the backplate though, I can put my finger on it... if it really were 79C wouldn't it be too hot to do that to? I mean it was hot, but its supposed to be...it wasn't like, 79C hot.

I would say your temps are off by 10c GPU ambient temp would be almost exactly the same as the PWM.

I would look at investing in Artic Cooler Rev2 and using AS5 on the Core.

If you do go that route dont over tighten the new cooler, and use the pads that come with it for the memory.

You can find them Here for a great price.

I think it's off by a lot more than that, I'm playing guildwars right now and it says 112C but I touched the block again and its hotter but if it really were 112C not only would it be burning my hand but there would be artifacts galore in the game

something is seriously wrong

edit: its at 119C now supposedly.

have you checked the mounting screws? Mabye they loosened up and the cooler isn't making good contact. Hence the lack of heat transfered to the backplate...

did you run a driver cleaner between the driver instalations?

if not you could still have something going on from the old drivers..try uninstalling all the nvidia drivers in safe mode, and then run the driver cleaner and reboot, then install the older drivers and see if you still have the problem...
hope it works out
