3200 venice help

Thread Starter
I have recently been trying to tweak my overclock with my new motherboard, but have a couple of questions if anyone is willing to answer some basics:

I have the HTT set to 240 (CPU temp is 31 degrees C)
The RAM at 166. (208mhz)
The timings are 3-3-3-8
The burst (?) is set at 4 beats
There is some other timing on ram set to 1T
The V-Core is 1.5v
The Dimm Voltage is 2.73

when I run Prime95 after about 5 seconds the torture test stops and it says "1 error, O warnings" Hardware failure detected.

I know the RAM will run stable at 225mhz, because I was running it at that on my last setup.

What should my next step be? I see people overclocking this CPU to 2.6 and 2.7.......I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer. Thanks.

Set your HTT Multiplier to 4x, and if you can, set your chipset (motherboard) voltage one notch above the first available setting. Retest. If it still fails, bump your CPU voltage another .025

EDIT: I would also like to say that people put a little too much into prime stability. For a general system users (games and internet), I suggest you instead do 30 runs of each of the main 3DMark2001 tests (use the CHANGE buttons on the "Selected Tests" and "Options" to adjust the runs). If you can get past this without a crash, then I say you are ok for a normal user. My old Barton 2500+ clocked to 2475 would run ok in everything except prime, so I really didn't worry about it.

This is of course your opinion? You seem to say this as though it is fact and this is not the case.

I would look to Prime95 as the best test of system stablity. Those who discount Prime95 are in the minority not majority.

I agree prime and also OCCT are good for getting the bugs out. there is no use in an unstable OC, it needs to be stable 24\\7. You don't want your car to break down in the middle of a trip and the same goes to your rig.

I would be more worried if my games were crashing then if Prime was crashing. Because in reality, Prime serves a rather obscure purpose, and unless you are an uber-nerd who loves to crunch out those prime queues, then Prime erroring out means little.

My advice to gamers who are overclocking is, worry more about whether a 3 hour loop of 3DMark/Other game benchmark/demo is crashing then if prime is crashing, since the average user/gamer will probably never find a meaningful use for Prime, other then testing the stability of their overclock. But if your not getting crashes in your games, then who cares?

It is an easy way to see if ya rig can cope with your latest settings. You can set the test and leave it. Prime can run overnight and OCCT is done in less than half an hour with graphs to show you what has been happening. I don't use prime at all but for me OCCT is the go. If I can pass OCCT then I seem to be able to pass anything.

Yeah, but you can also set 3DMark2001 to loop or run for a certain amount of time (selectively choosing what gametests and then setting the amount of runs for each test).

I dropped the HTT to 240 and Prime ran for one hour, then stopped for the same error. Does this mean that I have a processor that "just doesn't overclock" as well as some others? I have noticed that some people have gotten the 3200 venice's to 2.7 and higher. Its not that big of a deal to me, but I was hoping for a stable 2.4ghz

you could try 2t for the memory timing instead of 1t.

Yah, with 2x1gb sticks try running them at 2t. Also, is your PCI bus locked?
