i just bought battlefield 2 on pc and ive installed it and all that when im in the HQ menu or whatever the mouse sometimes disappears and wont reappear until i restart my computer. but thats not the big problem im having here, its that when i try to play the game i press the launch button on single-player and the game just stops when it says "starting server". i think the reason why is that it needs a 1.7Ghz CPU and a minimum 5700 fx and im using a 5500 fx. im not sure though because ive seen people play civilizations4 on 2.5 processors. i would love to play this game and school some of yall so any help would be great thanks.

Well, what drivers are you running with the 5500? I played BF2 on my 5500 just fine and so did andrechamp and krunk_kracker (5600).

Go into option>video and turn the settings to low, see if that helps, it might be auto set too high.

Did you patch to 1.21?

No... that can't be the solution... I remember this issue with my fx 5200.... Dangit! It's lost somewhere in the back of my head....
Hmm... do you have any antivirus programs running during the game? disable them before you play.

Their CPU specs just show minimum for stable play on lowest graphic settings... besides, your CPU is rated at 22.6GHz, hence the 2600+...
