GTX 460 Shroud

Thread Starter
Question! Would there be any improvement in terms of temperature peaks with a GTX 460's shroud OFF? If someone could provide tests and results, that would be awesome! This idea of mine sparked when I saw the MSI Cyclone cooler, it's not that much different in design, except for some customizations and improvements to the reference cooler.

Idk. It's just a thought, with that shroud keeping warm air locked within itself.

It would be most appreciated if my request is respected. Thanks!

PS. It obviously wouldn't be applicable to those of you who own a Palit/Gainward 460! The fan's attached to the shroud, so the sink wont work if you dismantle it.

it looks like MSI cooler has more fins.

No. I'm asking you guys if removing the shroud off a 460 would induce better airflow. I'm asking someone with a stock 460 to run some tests. I dont own a 460, I'm just curious about this certain concept. :3

Aint that a sticky. No difference judging from your setup! I can even see a tad higher temp with the shroud off than on! Even your fan profile had to compensate!

Thanks for testing that out for me! I guess there was no point to my thought, though, there could be some variables that can be cited here.

Such as your cooling setup. Do you have any fans blowing into the card's direction? If any, I hope they're filtered and with high CFM. If not, the shroud induces exhaust out the back, somewhat, without it, the warm air gets caught up and under your graphics card instead of out.

Hmm.

yeah i have 2 intake fans, one 140mm and one 120mm,and 3 exhaust fans 2x140mm, 1x120mm
