I have just realised that I have forgot to stick in the 1.60-1.625 poll option..I guess the voters will have to pick either side of that region in the poll instead.

the qeustion i'm wondering about that hasn't been answered yet is, not what your are comfortable with but, like he said, if you can keep the temps down, what is the problem with cranking the vcore?
I would say 1.5-1.57.

rustynator:

what vcore are you at now? i noticed we are both at the 2.9x barrier its freakin annoying isnt it? lol.

im at 1.584 prime testing 2.98 now.

Logan i think the answer to your question is that both high temps and a high Vcore can have an adverse affect on your CPU. By keeping your temps down you increase the lifespan of you CPU, but having a high Vcore can have the same detrimental effect as hihg temps. Am I right about this?

Blazin-asian I noticed that we have similar specs/OC's as well. At the moment I am at 2.92GHz (100% prime large FTT stable) at 1.50V (however with a multimeter this value is actually 1.52-1.54V). I can do 2.94Ghz with an extra 0.03Vcore and a slightly higher LDT Voltage. That brought the Vcore to 1.53V in windows and (1.57V with a multimeter) so I have not gone any higher yet. My temperatures arent fantasic either...they hover at around 43C on full load and that is with 1.50V, so I dont know what to do really to reach the 3GHz mark.

Max voltage will also depend on how much you care for your cpu. How long you would like it to last, if it is years on end then no over volting, if it is still a long time then minimum over volting, BUT if you don't really care if it is dead in 6 months then go for it. I had my 3000+ winnie overvolted to 1.7vcore with great temps for about 6 months @ 2800mhz and it eventually died one day. I think the memory controller is dead. How I came up with that conclusion was just with the diagnostic lights on the mobo. This overall overclocking idea is only really good if you are prepared to destroy your equipment, we all know that we egg each other on here and that is part of the fun but this poll will be read by people that only have the one rig, which does not want to be killed by overvolting. There should probably be a warning of the dangers of overclocking equipment and also over-volting. How many times do we see a obviously young (overclocking years) enthusiast post a thread that the vcore is at max and is still not getting a good OC. Then the person's computer is dead, that will reflect badly on the forum I think. I polled just under 1.7 but that is because I don't care too much for my equipment. Maybe we should make things just a little clearer for the world is watching this space. Google something with "overclock" in it and you will probably end up on this forum.
Just my little bit of thinking here over a beer on a Saturday night.

cheers and safe overclocking to you all......

You are absolutely right tuchan, my question is a bit ambiguous, but by the term safe I am talking about a reasonable lifespan, such as 3 years, not at the extremes, like 6 months or 8 years.

I say the MAX voltage for an AMD on air is 1.65V but I voted 1.6V because I like to play it safe. As a rule, I never go above 0.3V above stock.

1.6 on Air/Water
The oddest part of this issue is how accurate your BIOS is reporting the voltage!
Some have proven the discrepency in the report and found the actuall voltage lower then what was reported. Therefor, some claming use of over 1.6v to get a given OC are not knowingly hitting that high of an actual vcore.
