autodownloading program after virus, how do i kill it?

i had a virus on my computer annoyed the heck out of me but got rid of it, now there is a little laskbar icon that flashes saying that my computer is infected and it auto downloads spyware quake and when you click the text box it puts up it takes you to spyware quake's website (the text box is not of a standard windows warning message or norton or spyware doctor). ran spyware doctor and got rid of all the virus infected files and the main file, ran it again to make sure none are there and still says infected. how do i kill this lil annoying bugger.

also went through the task manager and closed all the processes i could to see which one it was but it never closed.

PLEASE HELP

Did you try and see if it was listed in Add/Remove Programs?

the program spywarequake is listed there and i can delete it but when i reboot it just reinstalls it, and the little flashing icon remains, its really annoying.

Open up regedit and browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\ CurrentVersion\\Run

And look for anything that has to do with Spywarequake and remove it.

Try that.

tried the regedit and there was nothing for spywarequake, was looking at fake virus alert messages and this is fitting all the same symptoms (shows a handicaped symbol in green and a red X (flashes between the too) comes up with a dialog box that says you computer is infected...(random BS)...click here for removal software, if you click it it takes you to spywarequake's website) auto downloads and installs spywarequake on bootup and does a scan tells you it found 8 problems and askes if you wanna delete them, when you say yes it says you have to pay $50 for the program. I HATE WHEN ANTI-SPYWARE COMPANIES MAKE SPYWARE OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT TO GET YOU TO BUY THEIR SOFTWARE.

and i can't find a way to get rid of it or stop it

take it to best buy or something. Other then that, you could install ZA Free, or a 60 day trial of Norton AV, and see if that'll work.

3 products to try:

1. SpyBot Search and Destroy- Legit and Free

2. AdAware Personal Edition - Legit and Free

3. Windows Defender Beta - Legit and Free (for now) from Microsoft themselves

Try those and see if it gets removed. I use those and have been spyware free for months on end now. Good luck.

Wow man, I'm sorry. It's gotta be an executable somewhere. When all else fails, contact the vendor through their site. They are required by law to supply you with the means to remove their software.
